LP_00024815-651 Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the supervisor/manager and a physician in the department, conducts sonographic procedures on assigned patients using ultrasound diagnostic equipment. Assists in gathering sonographic and other medical data necessary to reach a medical diagnosis; does not supplant the physician in decision-making. Ensure ultrasound equipment is constantly functional and ready for immediate use. Maintain records and reports on equipment, procedures performed, and billing. Document observations during procedures for final interpretation by the physician or other qualified medical professional; obtain pertinent diagnostic images for record documentation. Explain examination process to the patient and assist throughout the procedure. Operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment, observe sound wave patterns, produce and process diagnostic images, and present completed sonograms to the physician. Maintain records for research cases and participate in evaluating new equipment for potential research use in the department. Perform a variety of sonographic procedures to detect abnormalities including masses, abscesses, and stones. Follow infection prevention techniques and proper probe handling and cleaning as required. Perform Doppler scans (e.g., umbilical artery/vein, MCA, ductus venosus, uterine vessels) within allotted time frames; demonstrate proper Doppler technique and documentation of Doppler information, color and spectral imaging, and velocity settings as appropriate. Review patient medical history in the chart system and reload prior exams for comparison; use ancillary equipment (KinetDx, PACS) appropriately. Spot-check exams for required views and adequate demonstration of anatomy; complete exams within the required timeframe. Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Requirement met by License/Certification Requirement Experience:

Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience License/Certification: ARDMS by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Basic Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA) or RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Knowledge and Skills

Ability to follow extensive and detailed protocols. Ability to use an electronic checklist during scan. Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse groups. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to interpret physician instructions and patient medical records to determine the type of ultrasound procedure/test to be performed. Ability to perform detailed and complex obstetric ultrasounds on a varied patient population. Ability to work effectively as a team player. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and congenital/acquired pathology as they relate to ultrasound. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in the functional area. Knowledge of PACS or other electronic image processing systems. Knowledge of ultrasound physics and tissue interaction. Knowledge of safety principles and procedures related to ultrasound. Pay Range:

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary ranges may be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role and internal equity. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
