Fire Prevention Specialist (7146U) - #81173 at University of California, Berkeley. Position Summary

The Fire Prevention Specialist conducts regularly scheduled fire and life safety inspections of campus buildings for code compliance; and develops and provides required fire prevention and life safety training to the campus community, including campus-operated residential sites. The incumbent must apply professional fire and life safety knowledge, and federal, state and local laws and codes to address complex fire and life safety issues. Responsibilities

Develops, implements, and monitors campus fire and life safety compliance program under California Code of Regulations Title 19 and Title 24, Parts 1-9. Provides guidance and acts as the technical resource to campus community members on fire and life safety issues. Conducts regularly scheduled fire and life safety inspections of campus buildings for code compliance, notes hazards, and ensures corrective action. Prepares reports noting deficiencies; conducts follow-up inspections and works with management to support change. For self-supporting campus departments, provides training, building inspections and follow-up activities; may serve as lead for KNOX box program for assigned buildings. Coordinates and acts as official witness to annual fire drills in all student residential housing; may serve as authorized fire marshal during drills. Assists in resolving recharge questions and issues; drives university vehicles as required. Maintains knowledge of regulations and interprets laws, regulations, codes, and standards; performs outreach to promote code compliance and fire safety. Designs improvements to processes and procedures; provides construction plan review and inspection support. Documents deficiencies in construction plans and during inspections; supports program accountability for campus events and monitors compliance at these events. May manage, update, and submit the Annual Fire Safety Report; performs document tracking and control for fire prevention records. Assists the Campus Fire Marshal during fire cause investigations; participates in urgent response and emergency support as assigned. Develops and provides fire and life safety training for departments, faculty, staff and students; conducts trainings and makes presentations to local fire agencies. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of fire and life safety including related laws and regulations; general knowledge of EH&S fields. Working knowledge of California Code of Regulations Title 19 and Title 24 Parts 1-9; NFPA codes; California Fire Code regulations. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work in a diverse environment. Strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to manage projects within time and budget constraints. Proficiency with technology and relevant scientific equipment; proven presentation and training skills. Basic computer skills to manipulate databases. Ability to perform required functions before 8am, after 5pm, or on weekends as needed. Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, architecture, or related field and/or equivalent experience/training. Professional certification. Salary & Benefits

Budgeted annual salary range: $82,800.00 - $116,300.00, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), exempt position eligible for UC Benefits. How To Apply
