The Fire Prevention Specialist conducts regularly scheduled fire and life safety inspections of campus buildings for code compliance; and develops and provides required fire prevention and life safety training to the campus community, including campus-operated residential sites. The incumbent must apply professional fire and life safety knowledge, federal, state and local laws and codes to address complex fire and life safety issues. Responsibilities
Develops, implements, and monitors campus fire and life safety compliance program under California Code of Regulations Title 19 and Title 24, Parts 1-9. Provides guidance and acts as the technical resource to campus community members on fire and life safety issues. Conducts regularly scheduled fire and life safety inspections of campus buildings for code compliance, noting imminent hazards and ensuring immediate correction. Prepares reports noting deficiencies and conducts follow-up inspections on corrective actions; works with management to support change. For self-supporting campus departments, performs lead role in providing training, building inspections and follow-up activities. May serve as principal person in charge of KNOX box program for assigned buildings. Coordinates and acts as official witness to annual fire drills in student residential housing; may serve as authorized fire marshal during drills. Assists in resolving recharge questions and issues; drives university vehicles as required. Within specific field maintains knowledge of regulatory changes; interprets and applies laws, regulations, codes and standards. Designs improvements to processes and procedures; provides construction plan review and inspection support; documents deficiencies; and monitors compliance at special events with campus departments and authorities. Performs outreach to promote code compliance and fire safety. Develops fire and life safety training for UC Berkeley departments, faculty, staff and students. Leads training for self-supporting departments, staff and students; makes presentations to local fire agencies. Staff Development: participates in professional training, committees, conferences, and/or mentoring. As part of the Urgent Response Support Program (URSP), serves on the Fire Emergency Response Support Team (FERST), including after-hours requirements. Primary UC Police Department (UCPD) and emergency response liaison during assigned rotations; responds to fire scenes and conducts investigations; maintains incident logs and reports. Must be available on non-business hours and within one hour of campus if needed. Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge/understanding of fire and life safety and related laws and regulations; general knowledge of EH&S fields. Working knowledge of California Code of Regulations Title 19 and Title 24, Parts 1-9; NFPA codes; Flammable/Combustible Liquids and Hazardous Materials Regulations in the California Fire Code. Ability to interpret and apply regulations; strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Strong analytical and organizational skills; able to manage projects within time and budget constraints. Proficient with technology and relevant equipment; proven presentation and training skills. Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, architecture, engineering technology, architectural technology, or related field or equivalent experience/training. Must be able to perform required functions before 8am, after 5pm on workdays, or on weekends as needed.

Salary & Benefits
Budgeted annual salary range: $82,800.00 - $116,300.00, commensurate with experience. This is an exempt monthly-paid position.
