The Fire Prevention Specialist conducts regularly scheduled fire and life safety inspections of campus buildings for code compliance; and develops and provides required fire prevention and life safety training to the campus community, including campus-operated residential sites. The incumbent must apply professional fire and life safety knowledge, federal, state and local laws and codes to address complex fire and life safety issues. Application Review Date

Develops, implements, and monitors campus fire and life safety compliance program under California Code of Regulations Title 19 and Title 24, Parts 1-9. Performs technical work related to fire and life safety: provides guidance to campus community members, conducts inspections, notes deficiencies, prepares reports, and follows up on corrective actions; may serve as principal person in charge of KNOX box program for assigned buildings; coordinates annual fire drills; assists with recharge questions; drives university vehicles. Maintains knowledge of regulations and interprets applicable laws; conducts outreach to promote code compliance and fire safety. Designs improvements to processes, provides construction plan review and inspection support. Manages program responsibility for campus events, monitors compliance, and may serve as liaison with regulatory agencies; may manage annual Fire Safety Report. Performs document tracking for files and records; investigates incidents and supports fire cause investigations; maintains incident logs. Develops and provides fire and life safety training for departments, faculty, staff, and students. Additional responsibilities include ongoing staff development, urgent response support through FERST, and after-hours readiness with UC Police Department and other emergency responders. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Thorough knowledge of fire and life safety, relevant laws and regulations; working knowledge of California Code of Regulations Title 19 and Title 24, Parts 1-9; NFPA codes; knowledge of applicable regulations and standards; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication; analytical and organizational skills; computer skills for databases; ability to work flexible hours; bachelor’s degree in science/engineering/related field or equivalent experience. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment; ability to train and present to varied audiences. Must be able to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed. Professional certification. Compensation, Benefits & Conditions

The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $82,800.00 - $116,300.00, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), exempt position eligible for UC Benefits.
