The Executive Director of Strategic Communications works collaboratively with university constituents to create an internal and marketing communications plan which supports the strategic plan, mission and branding of the University. This position also works closely with the President’s office, Advancement, and Admissions departments to support strategic goals. Duties And Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Brand Management

Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with the university’s mission and goals. Oversee brand positioning to enhance visibility and strengthen Spalding’s reputation locally, regionally, and nationally. Advise the President and Cabinet on communication strategies and institutional messaging. Digital Strategy

Lead integrated communication campaigns to support enrollment, fundraising, and institutional awareness. Oversee digital marketing efforts, including website management, SEO, paid media, and social media engagement. Utilize data analytics and audience insights to refine communication strategies and measure effectiveness. Internal Communications & Presidential Announcements

Develop and implement an internal communications strategy to keep faculty, staff, and students informed and engaged. Support key presidential communications, including announcements, speeches, and institutional messages. Ensure alignment of internal messaging with the university’s strategic goals and external brand. Public Relations & Crisis Communication

Serve as the university’s chief media strategist and spokesperson as needed. Cultivate relationships with media, stakeholders, and community partners to enhance visibility. Manage crisis communication plans and rapid response strategies to protect and enhance the university’s reputation. Content Development & Storytelling

Direct the creation of compelling narratives that highlight the university’s academic excellence, student achievements, faculty research, and community impact. Oversee the production of key materials, digital content, press releases, and publications. Ensure consistency and quality across all university messaging and platforms. Leadership & Team Development

Lead and mentor a team of communications professionals, fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration. Manage budgets and resources effectively to maximize impact. Collaborate cross-functionally with all university departments to align messaging and strategies. Knowledge And Expertise

Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in marketing/communications/public relations or related field. Previous experience managing a strategic communications department and executing a strategic communications plan for a large organization. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with research and use of data to develop targeted communication strategies. Physical Demands

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment with frequent work at a keyboard or sitting in an office. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment. Travel required. Evening and weekend hours are occasionally required. Contact
