Overview
In the role of Senior Maritime CAD/BIM Designer, you will contribute to the Maritime Program by developing CAD/BIM related products such as 3D digital models, construction contract drawings, as-builts, reports, planning figures, graphics, and GIS-related geo-referenced interface models. You will be expected to advance projects through self-direction, applying standards for plan content, sequencing, scale, layout, and detailing, and to support project-wide digital delivery standards. Responsibilities
Support our Maritime Program (nationally and internationally) in developing CAD/BIM products including 3D models, construction contract drawings, as-builts, reports and planning figures, graphics, and GIS related interface models. Demonstrate self-direction in developing above products with minimal guidance; apply standards for construction content, notes, annotations, code detailing requirements, and project conventions. Develop earthwork, dredging, and material take-offs based on accurately drawn, proportioned, and scaled 3D models. Manage a comprehensive multi-disciplinary project model, lead generation of BIM elements per the Digital Delivery Plan (DDP) and project scope. Create and maintain the project model, systems, content, and digital delivery output with project-wide standards for layering, annotation, presentation, referencing, indexing, naming, abbreviations, and numbering. Proficient use of software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Revit; pursue self-learning or training to master required tools. Develop a deep understanding of structural design and other disciplines, and how they interact to meet project requirements. Understand and present engineering documentation and plan presentation across disciplines. Mentor and develop junior CAD/BIM specialists within the Maritime program or other disciplines as needed. Perform activities to achieve the above expectations, including: Model BIM elements with correct constraints, produce detailed drawings and diagrams, maintain discipline models, and ensure accurate annotations. Monitor, improve, and maintain company standards and model health. Coordinate designs with other discipline models through Design Reviews and 3D Coordination processes. Execute all Digital Delivery requirements identified on the project. Contribute to the development, modernization, and improvement of digital production capabilities, including tools, templates, and training within the Maritime program. Perform independent QA/QC of digital design work produced by others in the program. Collaborate with the digital production team and leadership to assess and prioritize program-wide production demands, manage workload, and deliver to quality, schedule, and budget. Engage in HDR’s culture of employee ownership and participate in office culture and cross-sector projects where available. Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of a two-year associate degree in engineering technology, design and drafting technology, or similar curriculum. Advanced proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD software. Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation. Experience with Autodesk Revit BIM software. At minimum, 15 years related industry experience, with 10 years in marine structural and port-related design. Required Qualifications
Technical degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Minimum of 5 years digital design (BIM element authoring) and 3 years digital delivery (model management) experience. Comprehensive understanding of all discipline relations and building systems operations. Advanced skills in 3D design software and document management infrastructure. Advanced skills in 3D coordination tools and Microsoft Office products. Familiar with industry standards, discipline codes, and specifications; capable with basic automation and programming concepts; familiar with 3D design software add-ins.
