Overview

Senior Specialist for Publications and Media. This role, reporting to the Director of Public Relations, will lead the editorial direction of Georgia Gwinnett College's institutional publications, including the college magazine and the president's report. The position also involves writing and editing content, collaborating across campus to uncover compelling narratives, and supporting media relations and crisis communications. Responsibilities

Generate and develop story ideas; write engaging features and content for the college magazine, president's report, and other promotional materials; verify factual accuracy and ensure alignment with institutional identity and messaging; produce AP-style editorial content highlighting GGC people, programs, and mission. Write compelling marketing copy for college brochures and collateral materials; manage projects from concept through final production. Develop and implement editorial strategies to increase readership, engagement, and content effectiveness. Edit, proofread, and refine copy for a variety of institutional communications to ensure clarity, consistency, and quality. Create and manage content calendars and production schedules; plan and execute the college's annual publications calendar, coordinating content and timelines for recurring communications. Collaborate with internal stakeholders across departments to identify and develop story opportunities. Serve as backup spokesperson for the director of Public Relations in handling media inquiries and support emergency and crisis communications. Manage external vendors including freelance writers, graphic designers, printers, and Section 508 compliance consultants. Maintain and update the college's media contact list, ensuring outreach efforts are targeted and current. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, public relations, or a related discipline. Five years of experience in a communications position, including public relations, media relations, or publications. Preferred Qualifications

Seven or more years of experience in a communications role, including management or significant experience in public relations, media relations, and publications. Experience in higher education is ideal. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of best practices, standards, and ethical expectations in public relations; AP style and news-writing standards. Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and to plan, organize workflow, and direct complex tasks. Strong editorial, photography, and layout/design knowledge; excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff; maintain confidentiality and high quality control for all news releases and publications. Knowledge of the Southeast US media market and publishing/printing industry; ability to manage large publications from concept to completion; commitment to ongoing professional development.
