Do you want to be in a role where you can make a difference in the Yakima community? We are excited to offer an opportunity to join our supportive and collaborative Yakima Office where you will serve a critical role as an attorney handling juvenile litigation. This attorney will enjoy a fast-paced litigation practice with many opportunities to appear at trial. While primarily assigned to handle juvenile litigation work, you will have the opportunity to expand your experience by also assisting with a variety of clients with new and varying issues. The Yakima AGO office represents state agencies and higher education institutions in Yakima, Kittitas, and Klickitat County. Agencies include Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF), Department of Social and Health Services, Department of Labor and Industries, Department of Licensing, Employment Security Department, and Yakima Valley College. Responsibilities

Evaluate evidence to determine legal sufficiency to support court intervention; Apply the Indian Child Welfare Act and the Washington Indian Child Welfare Act to the juvenile cases; Review relevant petitions and other documents; Consult with social workers and other agency employees; Submit and respond to discovery; Prepare witnesses and evidence for hearing or trial; Review reports submitted to the court; Perform research and analysis; Submit relevant briefing to the court; Communicate frequently with other attorneys and guardians ad litem to resolve issues related to underlying cases; Consider settlement options; and Take all other actions related to these matters. Qualifications

Graduation from ABA-accredited law school or completion of WSBA Rule 6 Law Clerk Program and licensure to practice in Washington State. Ability to quickly adapt to a fast-paced litigation environment with the ability to shift between different types of work within a week or day. Strong ability to communicate with a variety of client agency representatives as well as with attorney and non-attorney colleagues; ability to exercise independent judgment within a large law office context. Demonstrated ability to independently manage time, prioritize tasks, and maintain an organized practice under significant caseload demands. In addition to meeting the requirements to serve as an Assistant Attorney General, these positions require commitment to public service and diversity, and seek applicants who resonate with public law practice. Applicants must be licensed to practice in Washington or be actively pursuing admission; they may also be considered if they meet other stated qualifications and are actively pursuing admission.
