This role plays a crucial part in safeguarding the company's assets and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. This role requires a strategic and thoughtful approach to optimize program results and protect the financial interests of the company, all while ensuring internal and external partners are providing exceptional experiences to customers, the general public, and internal business partners. Additionally, you will oversee the insurance portfolio to optimize coverage and make recommendations on the program. Key partners include field operations, legal, accounting, finance, safety, and internal audit. Direct reports include claims team leader and risk operations team. Responsibilities

Insurance Program Management & Claims: Oversight and management of the Company’s Property, Casualty, Management Liability Insurance, broker relationships and claims activities to ensure coordination across the various business partners.

Risk finance and analytics function including insurance program management, actuarial services, and risk analytics and reporting.

Oversee all lines of insurance for the enterprise and manage insurance broker partners on insurance renewals.

Analyze data with established KPI’s, and prepare in digestible format for distribution across the organization including senior management, field operations, and other key stakeholders.

Project management and initiative leadership and execution for risk management initiatives.

Own the actuarial study process by ensuring the successful running of all casualty claim data and exposure projections while ensuring the accuracy of such data.

Respond to field needs in securing evidence of insurance through our insurance broker partners.

Manage the performance of the Third-Party Claim Administrator(s) for the claims program and identify program opportunities and solutions to continuously drive optimal outcomes.

Partner with internal groups such as Field Operations, Human Resources, Legal, Real Estate, Finance, Safety, Technical Services etc. to understand risk and drive reducing exposures.

Compliance, Reporting and Financials

Ensure compliance with applicable regulations related to risk management and insurance (e.g., SOX, SEC disclosures).

Prepare risk and insurance-related reports for executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and regulatory bodies and other stakeholders.

Own the preparation of the annual Risk Management department and insurance premium budgets and maintain monthly forecast to plan.

Review insurance requirements in contracts and work with Legal team to ensure adequate risk transfer to the company.

Oversee certificates of insurance program support for Field Operations.

Responsible for the development, maintenance, and execution of practices related to claim handling and oversight of the TPA(s) Client Service Instructions.

Assist in driving all claim program initiatives under consideration and bring new solutions to the leadership team for consideration.

Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration

Lead and develop a high-performing risk and insurance team.

Foster a risk-aware culture across the organization through training, communication, and engagement.

Develop team and provide training and leadership.

Key member of the M&A team, providing pre and post risk management due diligence.

Collaborate with the Internal Audit Team on Enterprise Risk Management strategies, including identification, mitigation, and risk tolerances.

This position may require other duties to be assigned or project work.

Lead Enterprise Tort Legal Strategy and Risk Alignment

Advise senior leadership on the legal implications of insurance program structures and coverage gaps.

Anticipate regulatory changes and develop proactive compliance strategies.

Ensure consistent risk transfer and indemnity provisions in contracts.

Continuously evaluate corporate policies to ensure they keep pace with best practices, industry standards, and regulations.

Collaborate with Safety about employee training and the role and use of job-focused technology.

Advise on crisis response and public communications for high-exposure and sensitive matters.

Oversee the selection and management of outside counsel, especially in high-exposure matters.

Implement process improvements such as alternative fee arrangements for outside counsel, technology where applicable.

Ensuring sophisticated legal defense posture

Identify emerging litigation risks and develop enterprise-wide response playbooks.

Coordinate privilege, discovery, and confidentiality strategies in alignment with litigation trends.

Lead active coordination with Insurers.

Review complex claims with all stakeholders, including outside counsel, to shape defense strategy.

Teach the “sprint to resolution” approach to claims management to resolve claims earlier.

Qualifications The Experience You Will Bring (Minimum Requirements):

Bachelor's degree in risk management, finance, business administration, or a related field. Advanced degree (MBA, RMIS, JD, etc.) is a plus.

Professional certifications such as CRMP, CRM, ARM, Bar Admission or equivalent.

10-15 years of extensive experience in corporate risk management and insurance or legal, preferably in a leadership role for a portion and preferably with a small vehicle fleet.

Public Company exposure, preferable.

Experience in a multi-unit, distributed workforce, or decentralized organizational structure a plus.

Strong knowledge of insurance markets, policy structures, and risk management best practices.

Natural relationship building style with both internal stakeholders and external vendors.

Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.

Values continuous improvement and collaboration in management and relationships.
