Position Summary
The Events & Volunteer Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing special events that advance the mission of Sherwood Forest, as well as overseeing a dynamic volunteer program that engages individuals, community groups, and corporate partners. This role combines creativity with strong organizational skills to deliver high-quality experiences for donors, participants, and volunteers while building lasting relationships that strengthen the organization’s impact. Responsibilities
Event Management Plan, coordinate, and execute all special events (fundraising events, Volunteer Trades Weekend, community engagement events, third-party events, etc.). Develop and manage event timelines, budgets, logistics, vendor relationships, and contracts. Collaborate with staff and committees to ensure events align with fundraising and mission goals. Coordinate event marketing in collaboration with the communications team, including invitations, programs, social media, and post-event follow-up. Track event performance, evaluate success, and implement improvements for future events. Volunteer Management Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers to support events, programs, and daily operations. Develop strategies to increase volunteer engagement, retention, and recognition. Maintain accurate volunteer records and data tracking. Serve as the primary liaison between staff and volunteers, ensuring a positive and meaningful experience for all participants. Create and implement volunteer appreciation initiatives to recognize contributions. Fundraising & Relationship Building Support donor cultivation and stewardship through events and volunteer activities. Collaborate with development staff to engage corporate partners in sponsorships and volunteer programs. Assist with donor recognition opportunities at events. Administrative & Organizational Support Develop and manage event and volunteer program budgets. Prepare reports on event outcomes, volunteer engagement, and program impact for leadership and the board. Ensure compliance with organizational policies and relevant regulations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, event planning, communications, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. 3+ years of experience in event planning, volunteer coordination, or related nonprofit work. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Exceptional creative and graphic design skills. Experience with donor or volunteer management software (e.g., DonorPerfect, Excel) preferred. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail. Strong team player with effective collaboration skills. Strategic thinker with the ability to plan and execute initiatives. Demonstrates high ethical standards and trustworthiness. Self-starter who takes initiative and works independently. Passion for the mission of Sherwood Forest and a commitment to fostering community engagement, as well as diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Essential Functions Communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing, and exchange accurate, timely information. Analyze, interpret, and report data clearly and accurately. Maintain neat, accurate, and orderly records. Operate a computer and standard office technology and software. Make sound decisions under stressful or time-sensitive conditions. Ability to drive and provide reliable transportation as needed. Compensation Salary Range: $57,000 – $65,000 (based on experience) Full benefits available after 90 days.
