Position Summary

The Director, Energy Market Intelligence is an Individual Contributor who will report to the Sr Director of Energy Analytics providing the forward-looking analysis that underpins these efforts. From wholesale market fundamentals and policy trends to long-term price forecasts and scenario planning, this team ensures Walmart executes offsite energy investments with confidence. The Walmart Energy Transformation team executes Walmart’s energy strategy across four key areas: onsite energy, offsite energy, retail EV charging, and energy efficiency/electrification. The Offsite Energy team includes Texas Retail Energy (TRE) — Walmart’s licensed retail electric provider — and the Offsite Renewable Energy group. Together, these teams procure energy, hedge risk, and deliver new clean energy capacity through power purchase agreements (vPPAs) and tax-oriented investments. What you’ll do

Lead the

market intelligence function

supporting Walmart’s offsite energy strategy, with a focus on

TRE procurement and offsite renewables . Oversee the development of

long-term load and price forecasts, and production cost models . Provide strategic insights into

wholesale price formation, capacity markets, renewable growth, storage, and transmission dynamics . Guide the integration of

market outlooks into TRE hedging strategies, vPPA origination, and tax-oriented investments . Build

market entry frameworks

for assessing new geographic or market opportunities for TRE and vPPAs (e.g., PJM capacity markets, ERCOT ancillary services, CAISO storage growth). Develop

portfolio stress tests

to evaluate resilience of Walmart’s energy portfolio under different economic, commodity, and policy regimes. Prepare and deliver

executive-level insights

for leadership meetings. Partner with Origination, Trading, Finance, and Analytics to align forecasts with Walmart’s portfolio strategy and investment decisions. What You’ll Bring

Experience in power market analysis, trading, renewables development, or consulting Deep expertise in

U.S. wholesale power markets , including capacity markets, RECs, and RPS policies Proven experience leading

market intelligence

within an energy company, utility, or consultancy Strong background in

long-term forecasting, production cost modeling, and scenario planning Ability to translate complex analytics into

clear, actionable insights for executives and cross-functional partners Demonstrated leadership skills, including team development and cross-functional influence Benefits

Option 1: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a related quantitative area (power system emphasis desired) and 5 years\' experience in market analysis, energy trading, renewables development, or energy industry forecasting/analytics/research. Option 2: 7 years\' experience in market analysis, energy trading, renewables development, or energy industry forecasting/analytics/research. Prior work experience in United States power markets, including CAISO, PJM, NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, or ISONE. Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field (power system emphasis desired). Prior work experience in role requiring knowledge of recent trends in conventional generation, renewables, natural gas, energy storage, transmission, and distributed generation. Prior work experience in transmission system and power flow fundamentals, including LMP price formation. Prior work experience in United States power industry structures, policies, regulations, and market fundamentals, including capacity markets, RECs, and RPS standards. Prior work experience leading modeling projects in a consulting or corporate work environment. Providing quantitative analysis, electricity market modelling, and/or consulting in zonal long-term power market forecasting. Primary Location
