Position Summary The West St. Paul Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Warming House Attendants for the 2025-2026 outdoor ice rink season. Candidates hired for this position will represent the City of West St. Paul and will be responsible for the oversight of the Harmon Park Warming House and its surrounding ice rink during hours of operation. Warming House Attendants will maintain a safe and clean environment during each shift. Please note this does not include ice rink maintenance or upkeep.
This is a seasonal position; dates and hours of employment are subject to seasonal warming house / rink operation. The typical season runs approximately December 13 - February 22. Full-season availability is encouraged but not required.
The warming house located at Harmon Park (180 Bernard St W.) is generally staffedMonday - Friday 4:00-9:00pm, Saturday 12:00-9:00pm, and Sunday 12:00-8:00pm. Hours of operation are subject to change on non-school days, holidays, and days with inclement weather.
Applications will be accepted until positions are filled; however, early consideration and interviews will take place as applications are received.
Primary Duties
Opens and closes warming house building and surrounding ice rink. Maintains rink and grounds cleanliness including mopping, sweeping, trash and recycling removal, warming house and bathroom sanitation; performs snow and ice removal of public walks and driveways. Provides excellent customer service to rink patrons; enforces facility rules and regulations. Shares information about and promotes Parks and Recreation resources and programs. Uses basic first aid procedures to assist injured facility users. Contacts EMS as needed. Maintains proper documentation for all accidents and incidents. Creates a positive and fun recreation atmosphere in the park. Works to solve problems and respond to issues quickly and safely, contacts supervisors for emergencies. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualification
Must be 16 years of age or older. Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions according to established procedures. Must be pleasant, energetic, self-motivated and action-oriented in maintaining a safe and clean warming house environment. Must be able to provide fun and friendly customer relations and to promote the City of West St. Paul and our Park System. Must be able to work evenings and weekends. Preferred Qualification Experience in leadership or customer service. Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED training. Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of park and recreation resources and programs. Ability to sit, stand and walk. Handles or operates objects, tools, or equipment. Reaches with hands or arms. Perform light to moderately heavy physical labor including climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and shoveling moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Ability to work both indoors and outdoors and be exposed to weather extremes such as wind, sun, cold, and ice. Ability to navigate uneven, slippery and snow/ice packed terrain. Ability to write legibly and prepare reports.
