Overview

This temporary position is located in Raleigh - Wake County with the NC State Highway Patrol. The job order lists an hourly rate of pay of $16.50, based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application. This is a temporary position with no leave or retirement benefits offered. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). This temporary position will be assigned to the NC State Capitol Police Section and is located at 417 N Salisbury St, Raleigh, NC 27603.

Responsibilities

• Provide security and law enforcement services to government agencies within the NC State Capitol Complex and surrounding facilities.
• Preserve the security of staff, visitors, grounds, buildings and contents against theft, fire, vandalism, and unlawful entry.
• Perform visitor security screenings at various state-owned facilities.
• Ensure safety and security of staff and visitors in assigned facilities.

Qualifications / Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of standard safety surveillance and security practices and equipment.
• Some knowledge of standard methods for reporting and handling emergencies such as disturbances and fires, medical and security threats.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods and to respond quickly and properly to emergency situations.
• Ability to interact with the public tactfully, courteously, and effectively and to follow oral and written instructions.

Minimum Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• May require the ability to complete EMT training and meet re-certification standards as required.
• Note: If the posting allows an equivalent combination of education and experience, applicants may qualify through either education or related experience or a combination.
