Position
GSS is seeking a full-time Human Resources Generalist who will report to the GSS HR Manager based in Watertown, Connecticut.
Responsibilities
- Supports an engaged plant population of 300+.
- Provide HR administration support to plant population including Time & Attendance, Workers\u2019 Compensation, Medical LOA, FMLA, Benefits and Short Term Disability processing.
- Help team members resolve a wide variety of issues.
- Coordinate recruiting, hiring and onboarding of new team members and ensure employment decisions follow company policy and employment laws.
- Assist with training team members and coordinating training events.
- Respond to team member questions and complaints regarding FMLA, work schedules, transfers, promotions, benefits, safety, performance, pay, and company policies.
- Assist in developing well-being and other retention initiatives.
- Coach, assist and advise managers and supervisors with difficult situations, and identify alternative solutions to ensure consistent application of corrective action of company policies and standards of conduct.
- Conduct investigations and respond to internal complaints.
- Assist with responses to EEOC, DOL, NLRB and unemployment claims.
- Communicate changes in HR-related policies and benefit plans.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2-5 years of experience in a Human Resources position, preferably within a manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with employment laws including FMLA, CT Paid Leave, ADA and COBRA.
- Exposure to benefit administration is highly desirable.
- High degree of comfort in conflict resolution situations is required.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate decision-making ability and excellent judgment.
- Knowledge in conflict management; ability to manage interpersonal dynamics and diplomatically resolve conflicting points of view.
- Strong employee relations, counseling experience and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment requiring tact, sensitivity, respect, tenacity, persuasive ability and decisiveness.
- Must react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience
- BA/BS degree preferred in HR or related field; experience can be substituted for degree.
