Global Steering Systems, LLC ("GSS"), a subsidiary of Neapco, is a high-volume global manufacturer of automotive components, primarily steering columns. Our global company has manufacturing facilities located in China and Poland and over 300 employees at our 180,000-square-foot Watertown location. GSS is seeking to fill the full-time position of Human Resources Generalist, reporting to the GSS HR Manager based at our Watertown, CT facility.
Responsibilities
- Supports an engaged plant population of 300+.
- Provides HR administration support including Time & Attendance, Worker’s Compensation, Medical LOA, FMLA, Benefits and Short Term Disability processing.
- Helps team members resolve a wide variety of issues.
- Coordinates recruiting, hiring and onboarding of new team members and ensures employment decisions follow policy and employment laws.
- Assists with training team members and coordinating training events.
- Responds to team member questions and complaints regarding issues such as FMLA, work schedules, transfers, promotions, benefits, safety, performance, personal issues, pay, and policies.
- Assists in developing well-being and other retention initiatives.
- Coaches and advises Managers and Supervisors on difficult situations, identifying alternative solutions to ensure consistent application of policies and standards of conduct.
- Conducts investigations and responds to internal complaints.
- Assists with responses to EEOC, DOL, NLRB and unemployment claims.
- Communicates changes in HR policies and benefit plans.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 2-5 years of experience in a Human Resource position, preferably within a manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with employment laws including FMLA, CT Paid Leave, ADA and COBRA.
- Exposure to benefits administration is highly desirable.
- Strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), training skills, customer service skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
- High degree of comfort in conflict resolution situations is required.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate decision-making ability and excellent judgment.
- Knowledge in conflict management; manages interpersonal dynamics and diplomatically resolves conflicting points of view and objectives.
- Strong employee relations, counseling experience and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively in an environment requiring tact, sensitivity, respect, tenacity, persuasiveness and decisiveness.
- Must react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
Education And Experience
BA/BS degree preferred in HR or related field. Experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.
