Manager, Process Technology Center (Pilot Plant) - Piscataway, NJ
Location: Piscataway, New Jersey. On-site role, five days per week. Overview The Manager, Process Technology Center will lead the operations of the Process Technology Center (PTC) pilot plant, responsible for developing, testing, and optimizing new products and manufacturing processes for reliable scale-up from laboratory to commercial production. This role drives operational excellence and compliance with regulatory and company standards, supports Global Activity Grid (GAG) projects and global initiatives, and fosters growth for Oral Care, Personal Care, and Skin Health through effective use of the pilot plant. It also integrates continuous improvement initiatives and Corporate Sustainability Strategies, and pursues modernization through technology, digitization, and automation. Responsibilities Manage all pilot plant operations and projects, ensuring safety, quality, and alignment with global business objectives. Lead, motivate, coach, and develop a team of 10+ direct reports, fostering a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence. Allocate and manage pilot plant resources to support operations, projects, and continuous improvement according to department priorities. Ensure adherence to Quality, Safety, Regulatory, Environmental Affairs, Occupational Health and Safety (EOHS), and Factory Performance and Reliability (FP&R) standards and guidelines; monitor progress on system implementations and corrective actions. Develop and update the pilot plant strategic plan and roadmap based on operational requirements and capital investments. Identify, execute, and manage Capital Budget Expenditure (CEB); plan and monitor approved pilot plant projects to ensure timely completion within budget and scope and without safety incidents. Build strong cross-functional partnerships to enable smooth transition of innovation from development to market. Communicate updates with stakeholders on plans, priorities, progress, challenges, and required support. Identify and implement continuous improvement plans for operations, processes, and equipment to boost efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. Promote safe behaviors, environmental practices, quality commitment, and a continuous improvement mindset; champion new initiatives. Develop and approve the pilot plant operation expense budget and manage actual spend within the approved budget (raw materials, PRM, etc.). Serve as a key interface with external partners (R&D, Veolia, Sodexo) to support daily pilot plant activities and maintain infrastructure. Oversee production scheduling in collaboration with Product Development, Implementation & Support, and Process Development & Innovation to support Grid and FTG projects; ensure scheduling aligns with SOPs and escalate exceptions as needed. Oversee raw material management, including ordering, storage, and waste disposal with internal and external stakeholders. Oversee maintenance of pilot plant equipment, water system, and other utilities; coordinate maintenance for corrective and preventative actions. Ensure pilot plant readiness for validation of formula and process robustness and Key Release Specification with local raw materials and local manufacturing after Product Development confirms formula robustness. Maintain accurate documentation (notebooks, SOPs, claims dossiers, bundle books, experiment records, processes, and results). Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Education Required Bachelors Experience & Qualification Highlights Bachelor Degree in Engineering (e.g., Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or Biotechnology). 5+ years experience in Engineering or Operations, or equivalent field. Consumer Goods Industry experience. 3+ years of people management and project management experience. Preferred Qualifications Master's or Ph.D. in Engineering (e.g., Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or Biotechnology). Experience in manufacturing sites as operation or engineering leader; familiarity with GMP and FDA requirements for consumer products operations. Excellent communication and collaboration skills; strong organizational ability to manage multiple cross-functional initiatives and stakeholders. Knowledge of production equipment. Compensation and Benefits Salary range: $120,000.00 – $168,500.00 USD. Pay is determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.
