Sargent is searching for a dynamic Human Resources Generalist. The Human Resources Generalist will play a key role in supporting and advancing our people-focused culture by overseeing the employee lifecycle with a strong emphasis on recruitment, onboarding, and orientation. This position will be based in our Orono, Maine office and will serve as a resource for employees and managers, ensuring smooth HR processes and compliance with company policies and applicable regulations. The HR Generalist will lead new hire orientation, coordinate recruitment and hiring processes, and support day-to-day HR operations including benefits and compliance. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to build positive relationships across all levels of the company.

Essential Job Functions

  • Orientation & Onboarding
    • Lead and facilitate new hire orientation sessions, ensuring a professional and engaging experience for all employees.
    • Oversee onboarding logistics, including preparation of new hire paperwork, I-9 verification, benefits enrollment, and workplace setup.
    • Maintain orientation materials and continuously improve the onboarding experience.
  • Recruitment & Hiring
    • Partner with managers to develop and post job ads, screen applicants, schedule interviews, and guide candidates through the hiring process.
    • Ensure hiring practices are consistent, timely, and aligned with company needs and compliance standards.
    • Act as a point of contact for applicants, providing timely communication and ensuring a positive candidate experience.
  • HR Administration
    • Assist with employee relations by addressing questions, concerns, and policy interpretation.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR records, personnel files, and HRIS data.
    • Support benefits administration, compliance reporting, and audits as required.
    • Assist with HR projects, programs, and initiatives that align with company values and strategic goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2–4 years of HR experience preferred, ideally in a generalist or recruitment-focused role.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to present and facilitate orientations effectively.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems (experience with Arcoro or similar systems a plus).
