About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience. Experience in postpartum care. Comfortable working with high-risk patients. Ability to circulate in C-sections. Experience with insulin gtt preferred, but willing to train. Ability to float between Labor and Delivery and postpartum. Description: The unit has 11 Labor and Delivery rooms that double as triage rooms. There are two C-section suites on the floor along with two PACU recovery bays. Typically, there are two designated triage rooms, with an average of 4-5 triage patients per day. The unit has 17 postpartum beds. On average, there are 5-6 deliveries per day, which totals 150-180 deliveries per month. The staffing ratios comply with industry guidelines. A nurse may be required to titrate drips such as Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin. The charge nurse does not take a patient assignment unless absolutely necessary. There are surgical techs and CNAs to assist with tasks. An obstetrician is on-site during the day Monday through Friday and is on-call at night. A neonatologist is available during the day with APP coverage at night. CRNAs are in-house 24/7 for OB anesthesia. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 for equipment management and respiratory treatments. Telemetry technicians are available, and RNs should be able to identify rhythm changes. The unit uses an electronic fetal monitoring system. Scheduling is made six weeks in advance with considerations for block scheduling, though it is not guaranteed. Every other weekend commitment is required for both day and night shifts. There may be holiday rotation requirements and flexibility with scheduling. RNs are expected to rotate between Labor and Delivery and postpartum based on staffing needs. The work setting is in a natural and adventurous environment.
