About The Position Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 18 months Med/Tele RN experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Post-operative care experience - Orthopedic experience - TPN management - Basic medication infusion management - Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills Description: The position requires an RN with experience in a Medical/Surgical/Telemetry setting. The unit comprises 35 beds with an average census of 22. General Med/Surg patients include those with stroke, CHF, COPD, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, post-surgical needs, and behavioral health issues. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5. Skills needed include management of chest tubes, PIV starts, trach care, NGT placement, and drain/tube management. Knowledge of PCA pumps and wound care is essential. The nurse will also manage medication drips, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and intravenous fluids. Support within the department includes CNAs and resource nurses, as needed. Telemetry monitoring is available, but RNs may have to read their telemetry strips when floated to other units. The position requires floating to various units within the health system as needed. Weekend rotation is required every other weekend. Travelers will work 75% of holidays. Up to six days off may be approved, excluding holidays, with a requirement to add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours. Unit culture promotes teamwork.
