Position Summary The Director of Operations will oversee all aspects of operations including solar construction, installation, service, automation, estimation, purchasing, and safety. This role carries full P&L ownership for the operations department and requires a seasoned leader with strong expertise in solar or commercial electrical contracting. The Director of Operations will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer and work closely with the executive leadership team and the Board. Key Responsibilities: Oversee and manage all operations functions: solar construction, service, installation, automation, estimation, purchasing, and safety. Ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of solar and electrical projects with high standards of quality and compliance. Drive profitability and execution through effective estimation, pricing, contracting, scheduling, forecasting, cost control, and productivity management. Build and maintain a strong safety culture across solar job sites and company facilities. Develop workforce initiatives to position the company as the employer of choice in the solar and renewable energy sector. Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing operations team, setting clear objectives and accountability. Provide coaching and development for managers, field staff, and electricians. Collaborate with business development to strengthen client partnerships and grow solar project pipelines. Work with the President and Controller on budgets, financial monitoring, and monthly operations reviews. Key Requirements: Minimum 10 years of operations leadership experience in the solar industry or commercial electrical contracting. Proven track record of managing large-scale projects ($2M+) within solar, renewable energy, or electrical construction. Prior P&L ownership with demonstrated ability to deliver profitable results. Experience leading teams of 50+ employees across field and office functions. Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills, with the ability to lead during periods of rapid growth and transition. Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Strong knowledge of safety, compliance, and solar industry standards. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Renewable Energy, or related field (advanced degree is a plus). Hands-on technical background as an electrician, estimator, project manager, engineer, or operations manager. Experience with design-build projects is preferred.
