Aims Community College seeks a
Program Director II, Fire Science
to manage and direct the Fire Science degree and certificate programs, provide strategic oversight, and support the CPAT program with supervision from the Director III, Public Safety. Key program goals include ensuring compliance with state and national standards, maintaining accreditation where applicable, and delivering high-quality instruction and student services within the Fire Science area. Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of the Fire Science degree, certificate, and CPAT programs; maintain equipment, coordinate deliveries to outreach locations, manage inventory, and organize state certification exams. Supervise the fire training drill ground and implement risk management policies in line with industry standards. Recruit, interview, and recommend full-time and part-time instructors and assistant instructors; train, evaluate, and supervise faculty to ensure program excellence. Serve as the first point of contact for employee and student grievances related to the degree, certificate, and CPAT programs; address concerns or escalate as needed. Program Compliance
Maintain all Fire Science and Fire Academy student and program records per state and college mandates. Provide direct advising for all Fire Science students; ensure curriculum meets State and National standards; maintain IFSAC accreditation standards and oversee the accreditation process. Schedule and coordinate state written and practical testing for certification through the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (CDFPC); verify CPAT records per IAFF licensing requirements; maintain publishable program pass rates. Maintain inventory control records. Networking
Recruit and market for the department; attend career fairs; assist with web page management and marketing materials. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders (fire agencies, EMS agencies, state agencies, high schools); participate in advisory boards and local committees; assess training and education needs. Student Interaction
Provide advising for potential Fire Science degree and certificate students; meet with students to discuss requirements, employment opportunities, and questions; provide registration overrides as needed; assist with graduation applications. Drill Ground Oversight
Provide oversight of the Public Safety Drill Ground; develop and train instructors on equipment use; implement risk management policies; schedule activities with stakeholders. CPAT Oversight
Oversee CPAT testing processes; supervise staff and manage budget. Management Of Fire Science Degree And Certificate Programs
Develop schedules meeting college, accreditation, and state certification requirements; advise all degree-seeking Fire Science students; place book orders. Interview, hire recommendations, and supervise full-time, part-time, and assistant instructors and staff; evaluate instructors and conduct observations; train lead instructors to meet teaching ratios and industry standards; ensure safety and risk management compliance. Other Duties
Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science or a related field plus four (4) years of related work experience; at least one (1) year in supervision/leadership. Must be willing to use a company vehicle for business travel; pass an MVR; be insurable under Aims insurance. Excellent organizational skills; ability to form positive external partnerships; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Required Documents
