Overview BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION: The P TD TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION ENGINEERING Department of the H ENGINEERING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 3 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional). This posting seeks to fill at either the Engineer I or Engineer II level; whichever level is most suited to the qualifications of the applying candidate.

Responsibilities

Engineer I: Prepares plans, layouts, design calculations and related engineering design in accordance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. Conducts project design and cost alternative studies, field inspections, and prepares associated reports. Prepares and manages cost estimates, budgets, schedules, material and construction specifications and construction contracts for projects assigned. Performs project engineering and project management functions for assigned projects. Coordinates work by consulting engineers, evaluates proposals and bids for engineering services and equipment and makes recommendations. Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, and follows the Company’s Policies, Mission, Vision, Values.

Engineer II: Prepares plans, layouts, design calculations, and related engineering design work in accordance with Company standards, codes, ordinances and regulations. Develops new or improved techniques and procedures for equipment, material, products, or methods. Performs project engineering and project management on major capital projects and interfaces with City/County, State, and Federal agencies on rules, regulations and permits. Conducts engineering studies, prepares reports, and reviews technical documents. Prepares requests for proposals, evaluates proposals, directs design efforts by consultants, and prepares construction specifications. Develops project schedules and cost estimates, conducts field inspections, and participates in Company emergency response activities.

Qualifications

Knowledge Requirements :

A BS degree in engineering (relevant to the Department) from an accredited engineering school.

Thorough knowledge of engineering theories and principles. Working knowledge of design, project engineering, project management and construction methods for electric utility facilities (3+ years for Engineer I; 5+ years for Engineer II).

Working knowledge of PCs and software; LEAN and SafeStart knowledge is preferred.

Skills Requirements :

Leadership and communication skills; ability to work with multiple stakeholders.

Flexibility in a demanding environment; ability to handle changing priorities and sensitive issues tactfully.

Driver’s license eligibility as required by company policy.

Experience Requirements :

Engineer I: 3+ years in engineering related to electric utility facilities.

Engineer II: 5+ years in power engineering design, project engineering, or related fields; Hawaii Professional Engineer license required to stamp drawings for permits.

Engineer I: $78,000.00–$99,600.00; Engineer II: $97,900.00–$125,000.00. Final placement based on skills and qualifications.
