Overview
Senior Technical Director, Project Management (part-time) role at WSP in the U.S. in New York City, New York. Provides leadership, definition, and oversight for delivering large-scale, highly complex bus project management work within a sector or national business line, ensuring application of capabilities, QA/QC practices, and alignment with corporate strategy, performance, and risk management objectives. Responsibilities
Lead the most complex and largest-scale projects within the organization, including defining what needs to be done and by when, managing budgets, forecasts, margins, KPIs, risk contingencies, hours and expenses, QA/QC, and contractual obligations to deliver the project or portfolio. Foster proactive stakeholder engagement across levels, maintain relationships, and report on project progress. Provide guidance for pursuit/initiation activities for projects meeting defined criteria or risk profile, including Go/No-Go decisions, contract reviews, risk mitigation, and pricing reviews. Participate in contract negotiations, presentations, and meetings at a technical level. Ensure profitable performance and successful completion of all projects within the area or portfolio. Provide leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and offer high-level strategic advice to clients. Provide performance guidance and proactive leadership to assigned managers and staff. Ensure updates to system and process documentation (Risk/REF/RMP, PMP, QP, PSP, Communications Plan where applicable). Lead project management discipline meetings, address root causes, and implement opportunities for improvement in area of responsibility. Develop project recovery plans and strategy to correct budget overruns with the client. Ensure regular project reporting to clients, technical areas, and business unit managers; identify emergent scope, risk, or budget issues. Complete formal project closeout activities and document lessons learned with key project staff. Stay current in the latest Project Management techniques and practices (PMAP). Collaborate with professionals and leadership from various disciplines to provide trusted-advisor services and future-ready solutions for clients. Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies; exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm. 15+ years of relevant post-education experience in a project management role within the industry. Advanced-level understanding of the project delivery process within the A/E/C industry, and extensive background in large-scale project management. Advanced analytical, organizational skills, and business acumen to bridge business and project management. Strong knowledge of corporate project management principles, practices, processes, delivery, and business impact. Strong knowledge of heavy bus operations and management practice in bus facilities with large operating fleets and multiple vendors. Proven ability to establish, implement, and manage multiple large-scale projects, programs, documents, systems, and practices. Excellent self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff and interact effectively with employees at all levels. Strategic thinking, strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize under pressure. Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, clients, and staff. Advanced knowledge of technical writing, MS Office suite, PM tools, and related software. Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies. Flexibility to adapt to change and varying schedules; occasional travel may be required depending on project needs. Preferred Qualifications
