Sr. Technical Project Manager

to join our Power & Energy team in

Denver, CO . The following location will also be considered: Boise, ID. The candidate will be involved in projects with our Power Generation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of technical professionals and subject matter experts to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, deliverables, compliance documentation, and managing the contractual obligations to deliver the projects as defined in the contract.

Lead the development of project proposals, cost estimates, scope, schedules, and resource plans.

Develop the work breakdown structure tasks and estimated costs.

Establish and actively drive the appropriate levels of technical review required for the project, selecting appropriately qualified staff to perform the required reviews, and adherence to the QA/QC plan, as applicable.

Ensure and maintain a record of each review and the disposition of review comments and all correspondence leaving the project.

Mentor project team members to support their growth and professional development.

Perform margin analyses, establishing margin goals and risk contingencies.

Participate in the technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentation, and meetings.

Develop and update the Project Initiation/Setup Documentation including: Risk (REF/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety (PSP), and Communications Plan as necessary.

Conduct and facilitate project kick-off meetings with key stakeholders.

Work collaboratively with Project Accounting to monitor and track project metrics, estimated time-to-completion, cash management, and budgeted margin for an assigned portfolio of projects.

Oversee management of budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost and change management and control.

Coordinate with area/technical managers to address project resource and subcontracting requirements in a timely manner.

Maintain regular communications with the client including reporting on monthly status, safety incidents, and major issues together with scope and budget impacts.

Participate in problem project reviews, providing input about root cause issues and potential solutions to leadership and other stakeholders.

Provide regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical area, and business unit managers, identifying any emergent issues with scope, risk, and/or budget.

Monitor accounts receivable (AR) and unbilled revenue, working to address issues as needed.

Work with the Procurement Department to closeout procurements and/or supplier agreements as appropriate.

Complete formal project closeout activities, along with conducting and documenting a lessons-learned meeting with key project staff.

Remain current in the latest Project Management techniques and practices (PMAP).

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.

10+ years of relevant post education experience in a project management role within our industry.

Proficient understanding of project delivery process within the A/E/C industry and strong background and experience in project management.

Highly proficient analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge the business and project management.

Highly proficient with critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of project management principles, with a sound understanding of intent, impact, and optimal outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

Essential project management certification required (e.g., PMP, CAP-M)

Master’s Degree in Engineering

Compensation Expected Salary (Colorado only): $111,200 - $186,100

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
