Brief posting description: The Renewable Acquisition Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional) Responsibilities

Manages the functions and activities for the development, evaluation, negotiation, and administration of energy power purchase agreements under the Energy Procurement Department. This includes competitive bidding, feed-in tariff, bilateral negotiations, and managing policies with contracted Independent Power Producers, Cogenerators, and Qualifying Facilities for Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric, and Hawaii Electric Light. Leads multi-disciplinary teams for development, evaluation, and negotiation of energy purchase proposals and serves as the lead negotiator for the Company. Proposes facilities, personnel, and funds required to carry out programs related to the organization\'s objectives. Maintains contacts with key stakeholders from inside and outside the Company for joint problem-solving, coordination, and staying current with technical, social, political, legal, and regulatory developments. Makes recommendations on technical issues integrating knowledge across power system planning, design, and operations. Assists with community engagement and public meetings. Plans, develops, and coordinates the acquisition of renewable energy resources through requests for proposals, power purchase contract negotiations, and other competitive procurement mechanisms. Provides planning and communications strategy, leads cross-functional teams, and acts as primary negotiator on renewable power purchase agreement issues, including technical and financial models and analysis. Remains current on emerging technologies; serves as principal contact for third-party power generation. As a matrix manager, negotiates priorities and supports completion of project tasks through project teams and consultants, ensuring resources and direction are provided to meet goals. Administers executed power purchase agreements for Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric, and Hawaii Electric Light, including ensuring compliant interpretation, justifying terms, reviewing monthly payments, and liaising with Independent Power Producers on operational matters. Develops and/or delivers planning/engineering-type testimony, responses to information requests, presentations, and other assignments supporting power purchase agreements before external agencies (e.g., PUC, State Legislature, Legal Arbitration). Participates in capital budget recommendations and provides avoided costs computations and contract term recommendations. Supports department priorities by developing, implementing, and administering policies and procedures; provides technical assistance to other departments and consultants; serves as a technical advisor/Company Representative on certain assignments, including community meetings or media requests. Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned. Qualifications

Knowledge Requirements Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; working knowledge of engineering and/or business principles. Working knowledge of Renewable Energy technologies, utility-scale applications, project management fundamentals, and relevant laws/regulations (PUC, environmental, state and federal) related to renewable energy projects. Working knowledge of contract terms/conditions and typical contract elements; proficiency with PCs and software (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, project management). Skills Requirements Motivated self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities with minimal day-to-day direction. Strong written, verbal, listening, and presentation skills; ability to communicate clearly with diverse audiences. Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills; ability to train team members; strong negotiating, influencing, and discretion with confidential information. Creative negotiation skills for complex technical and financial energy projects; strong analytical and administrative capabilities for forecasts and policy adherence. Analytical, organizational, and conceptual abilities to handle complex ideas and programs; adaptable to a demanding work environment and changing priorities. Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license and meet driving position standards. Experience Requirements Minimum 5-7 years in one or more of: power system planning, design, operations; RFP development and implementation; contract negotiation/evaluation/administration; transactional legal experience; or business development. 5-7 years of experience with computers and software like MS Project and Excel; 3-5 years of analytical experience in renewable energy, data processing, legal, engineering, or similar fields. 1-2 years of experience evaluating and negotiating energy power purchase proposals is highly desirable but not required. Experience with testimony before public agencies or at governmental/public meetings is desirable; experience in PUC regulatory proceedings is desirable but not required. Understanding of generation resource planning methodologies and renewable energy technologies integration with grid; knowledge of avoided costs computations preferable but not required. Understanding of project development, budgeting/forecast processes, and project financing with government incentives is desirable.
