Lead Cashier role at Ulta Beauty – responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. This role assists in the training of new cashiers and the cross-training of other associates, and focuses on loyalty results (including credit) through performance, people, and process. Supports leadership with open/close register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier in/outs, with a passion for guest experience, process excellence, and delivering results by engaging guests in the Ulta Beauty Loyalty Life Cycle.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Champion Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision and values in all duties and projects.
Performance
- Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink as set by Ulta Beauty.
- Ensure each guest receives exceptional service in a guest-friendly environment, including greeting, engaging, personalizing service, and recommending Ulta Beauty products/services.
- Courteously handle sales, refunds, and exchanges.
- Pair guests with an associate for makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and guest experience.
- Book appointments for and support the execution of services and in-store events to deliver an unrivaled guest experience while meeting sales goals.
- Oversee replenishment, organization, and maintenance of cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures to ensure guest-readiness.
- Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
People
- Contribute to an inclusive environment that supports teammates, peers, and guests.
- Support leadership by completing cashier chat ins/outs and associate exit inspections as needed.
- Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services; be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
- Promote the guest loyalty program (credit and Ulta Beauty app) to guests and lead associates toward loyalty goals.
- Assist in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates in cashiering.
- Demonstrate leadership to engage and influence peers toward peak productivity and performance.
- Drive cashier accountability in delivering an exceptional Ulta Beauty brand experience and follow systems prompts.
- Participate in ongoing training (brand and category education) to enable development and drive sales performance.
- Collaborate with managers and colleagues to grow the business.
Process
- Know and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
- Adhere to Ulta Beauty dress code.
- Complete transactions including returns and associate transactions; maintain proper control of cash and media per policies.
- Complete select register open/close functions as directed by the manager on duty.
- Maintain store standards and cleanliness throughout the store, including at the cashwrap, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom and break area.
- Protect company assets and minimize loss by adhering to store standards and procedures, including safety, inventory control, and loss prevention.
- Perform other operational tasks as directed.
Job Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma is preferred
Experience
- 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
- Proven ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve
- Demonstrated knowledge and passion for guest service and selling
- Experience addressing guest concerns promptly and professionally
- Demonstrated success in exceeding sales goals and training new hires
Skills
- Proficient with basic technology (POS system and Apple devices)
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships
- Ability to stay composed under pressure, use good judgment in ambiguous situations, and be flexible/adaptable
Special Position Requirements
- Work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- The role cannot be held by a minor; candidates must be 18 or older
Working Conditions
- Continuous mobility throughout the store during shift
- Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, twisting, and reaching
- Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs
- Workpace involves constant coordination and manipulation of objects
