Job Description:

Legal Secretary I (Underfill Legal Secretary II) from Yuma County, AZ, located in Yuma, AZ, United States. This job opening is open to job seekers with a Bachelor Degree in the Administrative field.

Job Responsibility:

This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer. NOTE: Yuma County reserves the right to underfill the Legal Secretary II as a Legal Secretary I until the successful candidate completes all education and training requirements.

Nature of Work: Under close supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in a variety of legal secretarial and office duties.

Example of Work:

  • Formats and types letters, memoranda, and legal documents for review and approval by an attorney.
  • Files documents with the appropriate court or entity.
  • Prepares and processes confidential and sensitive legal documents and correspondence.
  • Transcribes meeting and interview notes and recordings.
  • Develops and maintains office records and files.
  • Processes and logs incoming documents and directs them to the proper location.
  • Assists with scheduling and makes appointments.
  • Greets visitors/callers, ascertains nature of business, and directs to the appropriate person.
  • Sorts, indexes, and retrieves forms, correspondence, and documents.
  • Checks and completes records, forms, and documents.

Experience and Education:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent and one year of secretarial work with some experience in legal work or a closed related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of County policies and procedures and general office practices and procedures.
  • Skilled in the use of the English language, including spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Ability to effectively respond to phone calls, emails, and complaints in a timely manner.

Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
