invites applications for the position of:

Project Engineer/Engineering Associate

(Posting #SG-163-25E). Our mission: The Sanitation Districts protect public health and the environment through innovative and cost-effective wastewater and solid waste management, and in doing so convert waste into resources such as recycled water, energy and recycled materials. The Districts are recruiting to fill one (1) Engineer/Engineering Associate in the Wastewater Management Department, Wastewater Collections Systems Section. This position will report to the Compton Field Office in Compton. Responsibilities

Essential functions: To perform professional project engineering work and coordinate progressively more complex projects in the Wastewater Collections Systems Section. Job summary: Under the general supervision of a Supervising Engineer, plan, conduct and support engineering projects and programs relating to the operation and maintenance of the collection systems. Projects may include pumping plant improvements, sewer and manhole condition assessment, sewer and manhole rehabilitation and repair, sewer crown spray, flow monitoring, sulfide and odor control, and capital improvements. Develop and recommend engineering solutions for the collection systems; interact and coordinate with other Districts’ departments and sections, contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, city and county agencies, and the public. Apply asset management and reliability strategies to mitigate risk of system failures, including reliability-centered maintenance, condition-based monitoring, inspection and training programs, update of operations & maintenance manuals, and root cause failure analysis. Duties include analysis of sewer operations and maintenance effectiveness, risk analysis, capital planning of sewer rehabilitation and upgrade projects, stormwater inflow and infiltration management, and development of design calculations and contract drawings/specifications for construction projects. Develop recommendations for improvements related to operation, maintenance, reliability and life-cycle costs. Qualifications

Candidates must possess: A valid California Class C driver's license Engineering Associate II level: Option A : A bachelor’s degree in a pertinent engineering discipline and a master’s degree in a pertinent engineering discipline; OR Option B : A bachelor’s degree in a related science, Engineer-In-Training certificate, and a master’s degree in a pertinent engineering discipline; OR Option C : A bachelor’s degree in engineering and two years of professional engineering experience after earning the degree. Engineering Associate III level: Option A : Two years of experience as an Engineering Associate II Option B : Four years of professional engineering experience after earning a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. Engineer level: Possession of a professional engineer certificate (California) and, depending on option, additional requirements: Option A : A master’s degree in engineering and three years of professional engineering experience; Option B : A PhD in engineering and two years of professional engineering experience; Option C : Six years of professional engineering experience after earning a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Desirable qualifications: Strong data analysis and data management skills for sewer hydraulic modeling and inflow & infiltration control program; experience with capital project planning and implementation; strong leadership and communication skills for coordinating multiple sections, consultants, and external stakeholders.
