Overview

Experienced Professional, Project Accounting. The opportunity involves providing accounting and financial specialist support to one or more Project Managers and project teams. Responsibilities include reviewing project charges for accuracy, cost transfers, funding updates, budgeting, and ensuring current project data for medium-sized/moderate complexity projects. Generates financial documentation and reporting for infrastructure/transportation/professional services projects, collaborating with project managers on pre-billing information review, cost estimates, and invoicing. Responsibilities

Manage and analyze collection, recording, and allocation of project costs and revenue for assigned projects; communicate financial performance and profitability to project/program management. Oversee lifecycle project accounting from creating project accounts in Oracle to tracking budgets, validating invoicing, close-out, and reconciling payables/receivables with project budgets. Handle accounting tasks related to project contracts, billing events, and billing transaction exceptions for medium-sized/moderate-level complex projects. Collaborate with Project Manager and project team to establish and update project budgets; recommend accounting actions when contract modifications or budget changes occur. Generate project financial reports and escalate items (e.g., labor breakage) for review as needed by Project Manager. Authorize access to project accounts and transfer of expenses in compliance with accounting practices and guidelines. Maintain quality control standards for project-related financial records using Oracle, spreadsheets, and related software. Apply accounting expertise to project resources, labor, and expenses; investigate variances and submit variance reports to management. Verify contract and change order characteristics for medium-sized/moderate complexity projects; interpret contract language, compensation method, modifications, purchase orders, and subcontract terms. Monitor indicators for problem projects; inform project managers and accounting managers of any concerns. Ensure draft invoices are accurate per contract requirements; obtain required documentation and signatures; finalize invoice approvals and submit to client. Subcontract management and coordination with Contract Administrators; evaluate subconsultant invoices, maintain purchase orders, and follow up on subcontractor payments with Accounts Payable. Identify and record unpaid contract billings; follow up on delinquent receivables and unbilled costs. Respond to client requests for detail; investigate unbilled project expenses and approve project billings. Attend project meetings to update the team on financial status and actions required. Prepare and submit government reports related to projects; provide information for internal and external auditors as required. Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally; stay current on project accounting principles. Adhere to company codes of conduct and policies; exercise ethical decision-making regarding funds and resources. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or closely related field (or proven equivalent experience). 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in accounting, project contracts, and change management. Working knowledge of project accounting principles and their application to project work-related issues. Analytical mindset with ability to exercise independent judgement in financial decision-making. Ability to coordinate with stakeholders around contract and project requirements. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for accounting and non-accounting audiences. Self-leadership, attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks, follow instructions, work independently, and comply with company policies. Proficiency with accounting software (Oracle), spreadsheets, MS Excel (pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUP), and data analysis tools. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to derive conclusions from data and documentation. Awareness of and adherence to company project delivery standards. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health and harassment policies. Ability to work beyond typical hours when needed; occasional travel may be required. Preferred Qualifications
