Responsibilities
Oversee the maintenance and repair of a fleet of trucks and trailers, including scheduling preventive maintenance and emergency repairs. Perform hands-on maintenance tasks and repairs, including diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on tractors and/or trailers. Ensure all vehicles comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT standards. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise shop staff, ensuring a high level of technical proficiency and safety adherence. Implement and manage maintenance programs to maximize fleet uptime and minimize breakdowns Lead day-to-day operations of the maintenance shop, ensuring efficiency and safety. Manage and schedule mechanics, technicians, and other shop personnel to meet maintenance demands. Ensure the availability of necessary tools, parts, and equipment, and manage inventory levels. Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify training needs for shop personnel. Monitor and control the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. Coordinate with parts vendors and service providers to ensure timely procurement of materials and services. Collaborate with operations and dispatch teams to coordinate vehicle maintenance schedules and minimize disruption to service. Communicate clearly with drivers, fleet managers, and upper management about the status of repairs, maintenance issues, and fleet availability. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in diesel mechanics or a related field preferred. 5+ years of experience in truck/trailer maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety standards. Proven experience in fleet maintenance management, preferably in a trucking or transportation environment. Strong understanding of diesel engines, truck and trailer systems, and DOT regulations. Previous supervisory experience managing mechanics or technicians. Excellent leadership and team management skills. Ability to manage the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to lifting supplies or equipment up to 75 lbs. Detail oriented in a fast-paced work environment. Proficient with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
