Store Manager – The Home Depot
Position purpose: Store Managers (SMs) are accountable for leading profitable operations of their store. SMs execute the three focal points of the company’s retail strategy: customer service, in-stock, and store appearance. They achieve profitability by coaching and developing associates to drive sales through great customer service, resolving people issues, utilizing financial and store reports to identify opportunities, monitoring market trends and competition, and executing effective game plans to improve in all areas. SMs communicate the retail strategy, ensure its execution through strategic planning and timely follow-up, stay ground-engaged in all aspects of the business, and lead by example to deliver sales, service, and profitability through operational excellence. SMs establish a presence in the store via regular store walks, town hall meetings, and staff meetings, with a focus on developing leaders and building a deep talent bench for store leadership positions. Key Responsibilities Communicate and partner with the District Manager and district team to drive alignment, establish store direction, resolve issues, and ensure execution of the company’s strategy through Playbooks and Priority Communications Analyze and interpret sales and financial reporting to identify opportunities and guide the store team to improve performance; review shrink and safety performance, identify trends, and implement game plans Conduct store walks with ASMs and DSs to assess opportunities and create improvements; participate in reviews with District/Regional team to monitor game plan effectiveness Facilitate weekly staff meetings to establish store goals and objectives; monitor associate engagement and implement employer of choice initiatives; empower associates to engage customers and the community Teach, coach, and train store management and associates on operational processes, merchandising standards, store appearance, profitability, safe working environment, and operational excellence Support the implementation and monitoring of pilot programs and new store initiatives; evaluate in-stock levels and ensure follow-through to resolve out-of-stocks; maximize turns through tag and clearance processes Direct Manager/Direct Reports Position Reports to District Manager Position has 4-9 Direct reports Travel Requirements Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time Physical Requirements Requires intermittent physical exertion such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment; some may be heavy or awkward Working Conditions Located in a comfortable indoor area; conditions could produce mild discomfort on occasion Minimum Qualifications Must be eighteen years of age or older Must be legally permitted to work in the United States Preferred Qualifications At least 2-3 years of merchandising and/or operational experience; leadership experience, preferably in large retail Ability to work a flexible, minimum 55-hour weekly schedule Must be legally permitted to work in the United States Minimum Education High school diploma and/or GED Preferred Education No additional education Minimum Years Of Work Experience 2 years Preferred Years Of Work Experience No additional years of experience Certifications None Competencies Ability to interpret sales reporting Experience leveraging sales and profit opportunities through shrink management and safety performance
