Entry-level Transportation Engineer/Planner (Spring/Summer 2026)
Base pay range: $91,500.00/yr - $94,500.00/yr. This range is provided by Fehr & Peers. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

This role offers a foundation in project management and technical skills through a variety of planning and engineering project work.
Responsibilities
Ongoing: Conduct transportation analysis and write reports
Ongoing: Participate in meetings, including preparing presentations and public outreach materials
Ongoing: Handle project management responsibilities
Ongoing: Participate in professional organizations
Ongoing: Conduct site visits and collect field data
Ongoing: Explore the Fehr & Peers internal Research and Development program
By the end of the first month: Participate in on-the-job training and mentoring
By the end of the first month: Work on a few different projects
By the end of the first month: Seek additional work from project managers
By the end of six months: Work on a variety of projects with most staff in the office
By the end of six months: Use several technical software programs
By the end of six months: Prepare deliverables, including memos, reports, and presentations
By the end of the first year: Attend multiple client meetings
By the end of the first year: Increase responsibility for managing small projects
Qualifications
An entrepreneurial spirit and proactive approach to communication and getting work done
Genuine curiosity for the work and familiarity with day-to-day travel challenges within your community
Completed bachelor’s or in-progress master’s degree in transportation, civil or electrical engineering, urban and regional planning, or related fields (e.g., geography, math, statistics, economics)
Coursework in transportation, engineering, urban and regional planning, geography, math, statistics, or economics; an EIT for engineering candidates is preferred
Experience or exposure to topics such as field work, traffic operations analysis, signal design, transportation planning, etc. (not all areas required)
Experience with relevant software: Excel, GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS), CAD (AutoCAD, Microstation); Traffic Operations Analysis tools (HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, Vistro, VISSIM, Sidra); Travel Demand Modeling tools (Cube/Voyager, TransCAD, VISUM, Emme); Programming (Python and/or R)
Previous work experience in an office setting related to listed topic areas
Experience with technical writing and public speaking
Interpersonal skills, collaboration, and creative problem-solving
Organizational skills and ability to balance priorities within a defined timeline
