Overview The Associate Director of IT Operations for University Housing and Dining (UHD) provides strategic and operational leadership across various high‑volume IT functions, including help desk support, server and application administration, and security systems. Ensures the delivery of reliable, secure, and user‑focused technology supporting UHD units, including 24/7 residence halls and dining units. Leads a team of IT professionals, fosters innovation, and collaborates with stakeholders to align IT services with business needs.
Responsibilities
Oversee the IT Help Desk for University Housing and Dining (UHD), including desktop support for UHD employees, software installations, troubleshooting, authorizations, device management, and issue tracking in the UHD ticketing system. Ensure high security standards across all support requests and drive a services/support strategy aligned with stakeholder needs.
Oversee the Server and Applications Administration team for UHD, including physical and virtual servers and applications such as Housing Software, Point of Sale Software, Virtual Desktop Software, and Food Management Software. Ensure smooth operations while adhering to UT security standards and grow internal client satisfaction.
Lead a team of IT professionals (IT Managers, System Administrators, and other technical roles). Hire, train, evaluate staff, promote a user‑focused mindset, and drive innovative solutions. Maintain strong communication and prioritization skills; perform other managerial duties as required.
Collaborate with the IT Director on strategic planning and execution of department goals. Serve as backup to the IT Director when needed and represent the department in meetings. Maintain understanding of the UHD IT portfolio for continuity and informed decision making.
Administer the UHD Door Access Control System and Video Management System; coordinate with UHD Security Services to ensure stability and reliability of access and video security systems.
Participate in UHD and UHD Business Services meetings and events. Promote priorities and strategic objectives. Availability for occasional after‑hours and on‑call duties. Ensure UHD 24‑hour operations have appropriate coverage.
Qualifications
Required: Five years of IT experience; three years in a leadership/management role directly leading IT professionals.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or higher
Ten or more years of IT experience
Five or more years in a leadership/management role directing IT professionals
Experience managing and/or overseeing an IT Help Desk
Experience with physical and virtual servers and administering applications
Experience with FoodPro, StarRez, or CSGold/Micros Point of Sale systems
Experience administering Citrix Virtual Desktop software
Professional experience in higher education/University settings
Other Requirements Driving: Class C operator’s license; applicant must provide a current three‑year driving record. Texas residency rules apply for new residents, and CDL holders are subject to drug and alcohol testing as required.
Work Details
Work Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; hours may vary by unit needs.
Working conditions include potential exposure to all weather, temperature variations, office conditions, electrical and mechanical hazards, keyboard use, and occasional lifting.
