The City of Laguna Beach is seeking a proactive and community-focused

Fire Safety Inspector

(Non-Sworn/Non-Safety) to join our

Fire Department .

This position is responsible for conducting vegetation hazard and defensible space inspections, supporting fire prevention education, and maintaining inspection records. The role also assists with a variety of fire prevention efforts, including basic inspections of residential, commercial, and school properties, preparing public information materials, issuing notices, and completing reports. The Fire Safety Inspector reports to the Fire Chief and Fire Marshal and may assist in supervising volunteers.

Qualifications

Any combination demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:

Education : The following Fire Inspector 1 courses are required.

Fire Inspector 1A Fire Inspector 1B Fire Inspector 1C Fire Inspector 1D

Experience : A minimum of one year of full-time experience in fire prevention, fuels management, or related experience is required.

Licenses and Certificates : Due to the performance of field duties which may require an employee in this position to operate a personal or City vehicle in the conduct of business, a valid California driver's license and an acceptable driving record is required.

Desirable Qualifications

Education: An Associate's degree or higher in Forestry, Fire Science, Environmental Science, Business Administration, Emergency Management or a closely related field is desirable. A Bachelor's Degree is highly desirable.

Desired Training In The Following Areas

Federal Emergency Management Agency IS-100 – Introduction to the Incident Command System Completion of CA State Fire Marshal Fire Inspector 1 and 2

The appointing hiring authority will further review the job-related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions. Selected candidates must successfully complete a thorough reference check/employment verification, background investigation including a Live Scan fingerprint check, and a pre-employment medical exam including drug testing.
