Overview
Augusta University's Dental College of Georgia seeks a Department Chair of General Dentistry. The Department Chair's responsibilities include oversight for and/or participation in departmental teaching programs at the pre-doctoral level, research, scholarship, intramural faculty practice, and administrative leadership for senior student comprehensive care patient experiences in The Dental College of Georgia (DCG). The chair reports directly to the Dean, works collaboratively with all DCG chairs and deans, and demonstrates professional behaviors that promote a positive, productive, and caring environment for all DCG faculty, staff, residents, students, and patients. This is a full-time position with the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and is either tenured or non-tenure track administrative faculty.
Responsibilities
Teaching - participate in departmental teaching responsibilities including lectures, seminars, simulation-laboratories, clinical supervision, and related activities at the pre-doctoral level, primarily associated with the senior-year comprehensive care program.
Scholarship - engage in research and scholarly activities with demonstrable academic achievement (e.g., journal publications and/or invited professional presentations).
Service - participate in DCG and Augusta University committee activities and other professional activities that enhance the department and college reputation.
Clinical/Patient Care - perform patient care through the intramural practice of the AU Dental Associates to maintain clinical skills.
Administration - provide leadership and direction for the department in research, teaching, and service, including curriculum and faculty development.
Required Qualifications
DDS/DMD degree.
At least 5 years of experience in dental education and 2 years in a relevant leadership role.
Experience with CODA processes for pre-doctoral programs.
Experience collaborating with senior administrative leaders in dental schools, universities, and leadership boards/councils for higher education, accrediting, and/or licensing agencies.
Significant experience with professional organizations related to education, research and/or restorative practice.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree in business or administration (e.g., MBA, MPA) or a certificate program in business, administrative, or educational management or leadership.
At least five (5) years in full-time private practice or equivalent time in the US armed forces providing a wide range of general/restorative dental care.
Leadership training with a higher education focus.
Academic Rank, Salary, and Benefits This position is full-time. The intended work commitment is 1.0 FTE. Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and are subject to funds availability. Rank and salary are determined at hire and reflect factors including experience, education, credentials, training, internal equity, and market data. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, holidays, vacation and sick leave, retirement plans, tuition waiver, wellness options, and more. Eligible full-time employees may participate in the Tuition Assistance Program after more than 6 months of employment.
