The Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine seeks an Assistant, Associate, or Full Project Scientist in the field of bacteriophage research. The position will work with the clinical microbiology laboratory, the Pandemic Applications Laboratory and Microbiology Service (PALMS), and the Center for Innovative Phage Applications and Therapeutics (IPATH) to advance bacteriophage biology research and projects aimed at eliminating human pathogens. The successful candidate will engage in small and large collaborative projects, teach and supervise students and postdoctoral fellows, contribute original research, and participate in all aspects of laboratory research, including experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript and grant writing. Appointment level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience. Responsibilities

Lead and contribute to collaborative bacteriophage research projects in partnership with PALMS, IPATH, and related units. Design experiments, analyze data, and contribute to manuscript preparation and grant writing. Teach and supervise students and postdoctoral fellows. Work toward building and advancing projects focused on bacteriophage biology and therapies for human pathogens. Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

MD or equivalent, MD/PhD, or PhD or equivalent in microbiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or related disciplines. Preferred qualifications

Candidates with 4+ years of postdoctoral experience are preferred. Candidates with at least 3 years of experience in bacteriophage research are preferred. Candidates with at least 1 year of experience with bioinformatics and clinical microbiology are preferred. Application requirements
