The Contra Costa County Agricultural Commissioner’s office is seeking two (2) enthusiastic professionals for the role of Agricultural Biologist and Weights and Measures Inspector I. This entry‑level position conducts inspections and investigations in licensed disciplines and may assist higher‑level inspectors and the Deputy Agricultural Commissioner‑Sealer of Weights and Measures. Bargaining Unit: Local 1 - Agricultural & Animal Control Unit. Two positions are being filled in this classification, and the incumbent will report to the Deputy Agricultural Commissioner‑Sealer of Weights and Measures. Responsibilities

Test commercial weighing and measuring devices Conduct audits and price verification inspections Conduct complaint investigations Inspect parcels for plant material and quarantine compliance Conduct pesticide monitoring inspections Schedule inspection workloads to optimize efficiency Manage assigned workload Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license. Out-of-state licenses accepted during the application process. Inspection License. Must meet licensing requirements as established by the California Code of Regulations and obtain a minimum of at least one valid license as an Agricultural Biologist or Weights and Measures Inspector within nine months of appointment. Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Agriculture, Biological Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Law Enforcement, Commerce and Marketing, or a closely related field that qualifies the candidate to take the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s licensing exams. Desirable Qualifications

Class A driver’s license Experience operating heavy equipment Possession of one or more CDFA county agricultural inspector/biologist licenses Technical training Experience enforcing California laws and regulations Benefits
