Overview
The Associate Director for Youth Ministry serves as a key leader in promoting and implementing the vision of youth ministry across the Diocese of Memphis. Acting on behalf of the Bishop and in alignment with the pastoral documents Renewing the Vision, Empowered by the Spirit, and Sons and Daughters of Light, this role supports and coordinates youth ministry efforts in parishes, schools (public, Catholic, and private), and other institutions. The Associate Director fosters collaboration, formation, and leadership development among youth ministers and volunteers throughout the diocese. Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Director of Evangelization and Faith Formation to align youth ministry initiatives with diocesan goals. Develop and implement comprehensive youth ministry programs that reflect the diocesan vision. Facilitate ongoing formation, spiritual growth, and community-building among youth ministers. Represent the Diocese at local, regional, and national youth ministry gatherings, as budget and time allow. Provide resources and support for effective youth ministry implementation. Assist in annual budget planning and monitor expenditures for compliance. Conduct regular meetings with parish youth ministers to evaluate and support ministry efforts. Offer training and consultation to parishes initiating or expanding youth ministry programs. Maintain communication with pastors, parish leaders, and Catholic high school personnel to encourage youth engagement. Collaborate with other diocesan offices to integrate catechetical and sacramental formation into youth ministry. Partner with the Coordinator of Pastoral Juvenil Hispana to enhance Latino youth participation. Organize and support diocesan youth events and gatherings. Manage diocesan youth ministry social media platforms. Lead and sustain the diocesan youth leadership initiative, Discipleship Camp. Serve as liaison to the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, promoting religious emblems and coordinating annual celebrations and programs. Professional Development
Pursue ongoing education and training to enhance ministry effectiveness. Attend relevant conferences and workshops within budgetary and scheduling constraints. Qualifications
Practicing Catholic in good standing, committed to Church teachings and values. Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, or equivalent. Minimum of two years’ experience in youth ministry or related field. Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills. Strong communication and presentation abilities. Capacity to work effectively with diverse populations, including clergy, lay ministers, and volunteers. Collaborative and joyful interpersonal style. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed. Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Diocese. Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft 365 Suite). Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
