Train at a California POST police academy in preparation for appointment as a sworn Police Officer. Support police services, including dispatch, records, and communications. Assist the public and provide information on laws and department procedures. Access and relay information from law enforcement databases to sworn Officers. Build positive relationships with coworkers, City staff, and the community. Career Path: Upon successful completion of the academy, trainees may be appointed to the position of Police Officer. Eligible Police Officer Trainee Candidates
40 semester or 60 quarter units from an accredited college (units must be completed by the time of application). Possession of a valid California driver\'s license by the time of appointment. Vision and hearing capabilities consistent with POST. A minimum of 21 years of age. In addition, one of the following must be attached: PELLETB Certificate with a T-Score of 50 or higher
and related requirements as noted in the posting, including attaching the certificate to the application and deadlines for submission. The PELLETB is a timed, 2.5-hour written test designed to measure reading and writing ability. Candidates must schedule an appointment to take the test. For information on testing dates, locations, and directions, visit the Post test site. Test results from other agencies that administered the PELLETB onsite are accepted as long as they meet all other requirements. National Testing Network FrontLine Law Enforcement Test
with required scores: Reading 70% or higher, Writing 70% or higher, Video 65% or higher. This test is administered through NTN. You must select Mountain View Police Department before your test date. Test scores must be received by Human Resources by the deadline. The NTN FrontLine test is a timed 2-hour written test to measure reading ability, writing ability, and use of good judgment. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and achieve a passing score on one of the required examinations will be invited to complete an online Pre-Employment History Questionnaire (PHQ). Candidates who successfully complete the PHQ will advance to an oral board interview. Applicants who pass the oral board interview will have their names placed on the eligibility list. Candidates selected from the eligibility list may be invited to participate in the executive interview. Applicants who advance beyond the executive interview must complete medical, psychological, and extensive background investigations, including a polygraph and DOJ/FBI fingerprint checks. A prior conviction will not automatically disqualify an applicant; failure to disclose a conviction will result in disqualification or termination. Final appointment is contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment requirements.
