Overview
Entry level, non-sworn classification that participates in pre-academy training and the police-training academy. The Glendale Police Department seeks individuals committed to community safety and exceptional service with opportunities for advancement. Essential functions
Ensure departmental services are provided with exceptional customer service and high ethical standards. Respond to calls for service regarding accidents, emergencies, crimes, threats, altercations and requests for aid; provide information and assistance to the public. Emphasize a Community-Based Policing philosophy focused on community interaction and collaborative problem solving. Administer first aid to injured persons. Interview, interrogate and record statements from witnesses, suspects and victims. Identify facts and prepare written reports on incidents and cases. Apprehend suspects by driving safely, pursuing on foot, overcoming obstacles, using self-defense and arrest techniques, and using firearms under appropriate conditions. Enforce traffic laws, direct traffic, issue citations and warnings; investigate accidents and scenes. Investigate matters involving juveniles, reports of neglect and delinquency; refer as appropriate. Serve subpoenas and warrants, testify in court, handle evidence, confer with City/District Attorney for case prep. Perform duties in a safe and efficient manner and other related tasks as required. Graduation from high school or equivalent (state board certificate, GED, CHSPE, HiSET, CPP). Licenses/Certifications
Valid Class C California driver's license. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of exceptional customer service practices. Ability to make independent judgments based on policy or procedure. Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all employees and vendors. Model and practice ethical conduct; remain calm with upset or frightened individuals. Develop on-the-job skills and meet performance standards by end of probationary period. Establish smooth working relationships and resolve conflicts; emphasize community-based policing. Foster teamwork; read, write and comprehend directions in English; stay poised in threatening situations. Write clear, accurate reports from field notes. Other characteristics
Willingness to: Maintain a safe working environment. Work overtime as requested. Special conditions
Applicants must have good moral character with no felony or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude. Must be at least 21 years old at appointment. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Tattoo policy requires tattoos or body art to be covered on duty unless exempted; contact Professional Standards Bureau for details. All candidates must pass a pre-placement medical examination and a psychological evaluation. Residency

Must complete the Law Enforcement - Frontline National exam through the National Testing Network by November 6, 2025 and no earlier than one year from application. After completing the exam, scores are forwarded to Glendale; passing candidates are referred to the city’s candidate list for further stages of the selection process.
