The Business Litigation Section defends a variety of state agencies in all phases of civil litigation in state and federal trial courts, including federal bankruptcy court, and on appeal. Matters are often complex challenges to government decisions presenting questions of first impression about constitutional and statutory interpretation. The Business Litigation Section is seeking an Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) who is interested in working alongside teams of experienced civil litigators on complex litigation and trials, specifically, on improving the operational efficiency, performance, and litigation experience by creating case-specific systems for indexing and managing discovery and case documents for easy retrieval and analysis, as well as for calendaring, for training attorneys and staff on use of those systems, and for regularly reevaluating and updating those systems. The AGPA may also provide support to attorneys by interviewing witnesses and participating in investigations, searching court records for documents; researching and interviewing experts; drafting discovery requests and responses; drafting correspondence; reviewing documents and coding for privilege; preparing documents and logs for production; assisting in depositions; conducting legal research; organizing and preparing documents for hearing and trial; assisting deputies during trial; and communicating with court personnel. The AGPA, under the supervision of an SDAG or SAAG, will take the administrative lead in cases, soliciting and providing updates for pending litigation matters, assisting with the contracting process, preparing fiscal monitoring projections and analysis of expenditures, providing justification for purchases, travel requests, and mandated reports. The successful candidate will be flexible and versatile in responding to the needs of each case, and be able to work easily and collaboratively with everyone in the section, other parts of the office (especially LAO, CMS, CJIS, Contracts Unit, and Civil Division Executive Staff), outside document management organizations, and clients. The successful candidate will have effective analytical skills, research skills, writing skills, communication and collaboration skills, organizational ability, and knowledge of and familiarity with applications commonly used in law offices and for case, documents, and project management. The successful candidate will not just do what is asked, but will look for opportunities to assist in other ways. Some travel may be required. You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement. Position Details
