Porter Hedges is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced

Accounting Manager

to lead our billing and collections functions and support key financial operations at the Firm. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer/Controller, this role plays a vital part in ensuring the integrity of our accounting practices while supporting strategic financial planning, month-end close, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in accounting within a professional services environment, excellent leadership skills, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

Billing and Collections Management : Oversee and support Billing Clerks in preparing monthly client invoices and uploading invoices to client-specific platforms; manage complex billing scenarios and client-specific billing requests; administer e-billing processes: onboard new clients, resolve invoice rejections, and troubleshoot issues in e-Billing Hub and client platforms; review and approve edits, write-offs, time/cost transfers, rate adjustments, and unbilled fee aging in accordance with Firm policy; train and mentor billing staff; maintain comprehensive documentation of billing processes and procedures; provide daily billing support and accounting information to Legal Secretaries; maintain and update the Firm’s time entry system (Elite), including creation and termination of timekeeper profiles, billing rates, origination data, and matter status; monitor and manage accounts receivable, unapplied funds, and collection activities.

Accounting and Financial Reporting : Manage the monthly close process in Elite, ensuring system reconciliation and timely generation of internal financial reports; perform general ledger account reconciliations and assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; distribute management reports and post financial documents to the Firm’s intranet; support the CFO/Controller and Assistant Controller in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities; maintain financial data systems, including updates for new hires and terminations; batch upload hard cost data and ensure data accuracy in accounting systems; prepare workpapers and schedules for annual partnership tax returns and external audits; complete third-party surveys and financial questionnaires; engage with attorneys and professional staff members to fulfill ad hoc financial requests and special projects.

Supervisory Responsibility This position directly supervises: 1 e-Billing Coordinator, 1 Accounts Receivable Clerk, and 1 Collections Analyst.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required with a major in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred; CPA certification is a plus.

Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience in a professional services environment.

Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.

Proven ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and prepare clear, accurate reports.

Proficient in accounting and office software, including Elite, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and PDF tools (Adobe Acrobat, Nuance).

Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Strong client service orientation and ability to collaborate across departments and levels.
