We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced
Property Accounting Manager
to oversee accounting functions related to a large portfolio of retail properties. This role will manage a team of 4–5 professionals and ensure accurate accounting and reporting for more than 900 store locations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in property or lease accounting, leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-unit retail or restaurant environment. Key Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of property accounting, including lease administration, rent, CAM (common area maintenance), real estate taxes, and occupancy costs. Oversee month-end close, account reconciliations, and journal entries related to property and lease accounting. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 4–5 accounting professionals. Collaborate with real estate, legal, finance, and operations teams to ensure lease compliance and proper financial reporting. Monitor and analyze occupancy expenses, identifying opportunities for cost control and efficiency. Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant lease accounting standards (ASC 842). Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis related to property and occupancy costs. Support external audit requirements by preparing documentation and providing explanations as needed. Implement and improve processes, systems, and internal controls to support scalability across 900+ store locations. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (CPA preferred). 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in property or lease accounting. Prior leadership experience managing a team of accounting staff. Strong knowledge of GAAP and lease accounting standards (ASC 842). Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Experience in multi-unit retail, restaurant, or real estate industries strongly preferred.
