Overview
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) provides solid waste and drainage and wastewater services for Seattle residents and businesses and drinking water for the 1.4 million regional customers. The Design & Record Drafting Team is seeking a Civil Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Technician (Assoc. CE Spec) within the Engineering & Technical Services Division of SPU. The Civil CADD Technician works on a variety of projects, providing computer aided design and drafting services using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Plant 3D, Revit, and/or other complementary software. The incumbent will provide support on SPU projects, Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) projects, and consultant CADD support.
Responsibilities
Draft civil engineering plans for advertisement using various Autodesk software, which includes water, sewer, storm drainage, paving, grading, Construction Sedimentation Erosion Control (CSEC), details, sections, intersection geometry & ADA ramp layout plans, report figures, and permit drawings.
Draft addendums, design changes & post-construction As-Built & Record Drawings.
Support engineers directly with design options and calculations using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Plant 3D, BIM 360, and related tools.
Adhere to SPU/SDOT current CADD standards at all times.
Create and update project estimates, project tracking spreadsheets, timecards, inform supervisor and team members of project status, issues or concerns, and meet project commitments and deadlines.
Follow City of Seattle standard plans and specifications.
Use and follow in-house documentation regarding drafting policies & procedures.
Perform self-check to ensure accuracy and quality of work (QA/QC).
Coordinate with the survey section, other City departments, and consultants.
Qualifications
Experience:
Requires two (2) years civil engineering experience.
Education:
Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two years of college-level coursework in engineering and construction technology. Experience and Education Equivalency may apply as determined by the City.
Licenses/Certifications:
At the time of appointment must hold a valid Washington State Driver License.
Desired Qualifications:
Five (5) or more years of experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Plant 3D, Revit, BIM 360, Cyclone, ReCAP, Navisworks (or related software) in civil-related functions.
Exceptional civil drafting skills in a production environment and knowledge of civil engineering practices.
Strong attention to detail, ability to complete tasks timely, and effective communication (verbal and written).
Prior experience submitting drawings to SDOT for SIP/UMP (Street Improvement Permit/Utility Major Permit).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of utility systems and municipal mapping.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment on projects.
Additional Information Candidates selected for interview may be asked to provide PDF samples of completed projects at the time of the interview.
