Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education, serving the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne. Responsibilities

Lead Alfred Health’s strategic and operational efforts in medication safety, formulary management, medicines information and stewardship programs (Analgesic, Antimicrobial, and Anticoagulant).

Oversee the operations of the Medication Safety and Drugs and Therapeutics Committees, in collaboration with the Formulary Manager and Medication Safety Lead.

Develop and implement policies, protocols, and strategies to promote optimal medication use in partnership with clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders.

Ensure preparedness for accreditation under Standard 4 of the Short Notice Accreditation Assessment Program (SNAAP).

Manage the operational services of the Pharmacy Department, including dispensaries, aseptic service and the pharmacy clinical trials service, with support from the Deputy Director of Pharmacy Operations.

Qualifications & Experience

Registered pharmacist in Australia.

Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy, public health, healthcare management or equivalent.

Extensive hospital pharmacy experience in a senior leadership position with an understanding of contemporary hospital pharmacy practice.

Experience in clinical governance relating to medication use and safety (desirable).

Experience in monitoring and evaluating strategies to improve medication use and safety (desirable).

Experience in designing, delivering and evaluating stewardship programs (desirable).

Advanced clinical practice and/or extensive experience across diverse clinical environments (desirable).

Research experience including undertaking, presenting and publishing findings (desirable).

Proven track record in managing clinical staff and maintaining relationships with clinicians (highly regarded).

Experience in horizon scanning and developing innovative processes for local implementation (desirable).

Key Skills

Strong clinical knowledge and expertise in medication safety, formulary management and quality use of medicines.

Knowledge of medication governance frameworks and regulatory compliance.

Strategic thinking, energy and enthusiasm with the ability to lead systems initiatives.

Effective leadership and decision-making skills with excellent stakeholder engagement across clinical, executive and governance domains.

Advanced presentation skills and ability to develop high-performing teams.
