At Rio Tinto Kennecott, we are seeking a Senior Adviser, Data Management – Geoscience / Orebody Knowledge stewardship of our geoscientific data systems at the Bingham Canyon Mine. This is a strategic and highly specialized role that underpins the integrity of our geoscience data systems—critical to safe, efficient, and compliant copper production. We are looking for a seasoned professional with deep technical expertise in geoscience database management and a proven track record of supporting complex mining operations. What You’ll Be Responsible For
Enable operational excellence by supporting real-time decision-making and reducing rework, license outages, and data-related delays Develop custom tools and visualizations to support technical workflows and improve data usability Innovate data integration, testing new combinations of datasets to unlock deeper insights into the deposit Lead proactive data governance and act as the single point of accountability for OBK database systems and technical software Document procedures and results, ensuring transparency and reproducibility Key Responsibilities
Lead the management of the OBK (Orebody Knowledge) database systems, including acQuire and SQL Server environments Ensure rigorous QA/QC and data validation protocols are followed to maintain compliance with Rio Tinto and JORC standards Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Drill & Blast, Geology, Resource, Ore Control, Hydrology, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering, Mine Planning, and Metallurgy Develop and maintain custom tools, dashboards, and visualizations to support technical workflows and real-time decision-making Act as the point of accountability for all OBK-related data systems, including software installation, troubleshooting, and user support Document and standardize procedures, ensuring transparency, reproducibility, and audit-readiness Train and mentor users at all levels—from onboarding to advanced acQuire functionality and data governance best practices What You’ll Bring
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in geological or geoscientific database management in a mining or exploration environment Expert-level proficiency with acQuire GIM Suite and SQL-based data systems Strong understanding of mining operations and geoscientific datasets, including drillhole, assay, geotechnical, and structural data Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining QA/QC protocols and data governance frameworks Proven ability to manage complex, high-stakes data systems with minimal supervision Experience supporting technical software (e.g., Minesite, Vulcan, Leapfrog, Deswik, WellCAD, MOVE) and troubleshooting installation and performance issues Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across technical and operational teams A passion for data integrity, safety, and continuous improvement What We Offer
