The Industrial Strategies Division within the California Air Resources Board (CARB) is seeking a motivated and experienced professional to help lead a team of staff supporting the deployment of Carbon Capture, Utilization and Sequestration (CCUS) and Direct Air Capture technologies and projects, as required by Senate Bill 905 (Caballero, 2022). As a Staff Air Pollution Specialist (SAPS) in the Carbon Strategies Section in the Carbon Management Branch, you will develop policies and lead the development of regulations for the CCUS Program, a critical strategy helping California meet its carbon neutrality goal. The individual in this role must build and maintain a current, robust understanding of existing and emerging CCUS technologies and develop policy recommendations to support the deployment of engineered carbon removal projects aligned with California’s climate objectives. The SAPS will plan, conduct and lead others to complete CCUS Program rulemaking activities and prepare regulatory and guidance documents. The SAPS will coordinate program activities with internal teams, other state agencies and external stakeholders, represent CARB and the CCUS Program at workshops, conferences, and public meetings; and communicate program information, technical findings, and policy insights to diverse audiences. The SAPS will work closely with section, branch and division management to plan and monitor program activities and will prepare and deliver program updates to agency leaders. In addition, the SAPS will develop and support the procurement of contractors as needed and may manage contract agreements.
