Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree preferred in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, Public Information or related field; An evaluation of foreign degree may be required.

One (1) year experience performing moderately complex clerical and administrative support work that demonstrates ability to maintain accurate records, prioritize multiple tasks, and exercise independent judgment and decision making preferably in a law enforcement, corrections or criminal justice environment.

Must possess and maintain throughout employment a valid Florida driver license without any restrictions affecting job performance.

An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.

Incumbents are required to acquire FCIC/NCIC Certification within one (1) month of hire.

Work Schedule The position of Confinement Status Specialist I is scheduled flexibly. Employees in this classification may be required to work varying shifts (6:00 a.m. - 2:15 p.m., 6:30 a.m. - 2:45 p.m., 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m., 9:00 a.m. - 5:15 p.m., 10:00 a.m. - 6:15 p.m., 11:00 a.m. - 7:15 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.). Please be advised that you may be required to work weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to process, input, maintain, and update inmate confinement records within the Department of Detention. The employee reviews all inmate data and information regarding current holding status, booking, release, court appearances, or related information to track an inmate’s confinement status. The position reviews and applies court orders and legal documents to ensure the accurate and lawful detention, transfer, and release of inmates. The position is responsible for preparing required court documents for transfer to other court-ordered programs and/or institutions. The employee attends Magistrate court to hear judge’s findings and updates inmate records into the Jail Management System (JMS). The position researches and resolves record discrepancies and communicates with courts, law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and staff regarding an inmate’s status. Performs related work as directed.

Process, input, update, and maintain inmate confinement status records in the Jail Management System (JMS) including court orders, disposition, warrants, writs, and booking.

Review and interpret court orders, warrants, release paperwork, sentencing documents, and accurately apply the information to the inmate's arrest records.

Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies or conflicts in inmate records by researching legal documents and collaborating with stakeholders.

Accurately enter, update, and maintain inmate arrest information in JMS, including booking, confinement status, release dates, and court appearances.

Verify sentencing information, calculate credit for time served, and ensure compliance with release dates and court orders.

Attend Magistrate court to hear the judge's findings and update inmate arrest records accordingly.

Coordinate assignments to In Custody/Out of Custody programs, warrantless arrests, and Baker Acts.

File arrest records by current status of inmate confinement.

Respond to inquiries concerning the status of an inmate based on current written guidelines.

May attend and testify at depositions, trials, or other court functions.

Perform related duties as directed.

Tasks involve light physical effort in sedentary to light work, with possible lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of light objects (5-10 pounds).

Work involves extended periods at a keyboard or workstation in a corrections environment with appropriate security provisions.

Potential for intermittent exposure to elements consistent with routine conditions in a corrections detainment environment.
