The Transportation Specialist is a crucial member of the Transportation Network Design team, ensuring the seamless execution of transportation strategies and optimizing local operations. This role bridges high-level network design with day-to-day operations, focusing on tracking local transportation expenses, managing driver route assignments, and aligning local operations with broader network goals. The specialist drives cost savings, improves operational efficiency, and fosters continuous improvements in local transportation processes. Responsibilities
Effective Local Transportation Spend Tracking: monitor transportation costs at a granular level (fuel, tolls, driver wages, carrier costs, maintenance) Cost Control & Accountability: collaborate with the Transportation Network Design team to align local expenses with cost-saving initiatives Real-Time Updates for Samsara Route Management: maintain Samsara routes with accurate, real-time GPS tracking and route data Route Optimization: adjust routes based on local conditions to minimize delays, reduce fuel consumption, and improve on-time delivery Ensure Alignment Between Local and Network-Level Goals: bridge local operations with network strategies and objectives Local Feedback Loop: provide regular feedback on local challenges and opportunities to the Transportation Network Design team Local-Level Optimization: modify routes and plans for site-specific needs (local regulations, delivery types, varying volumes) Resource Allocation: ensure efficient use of transportation resources to optimize fleet capacity and service levels Real-Time Problem Solving & Route Management: respond to unforeseen issues (weather, schedule changes) by adjusting routes Driver Support: act as the primary contact for drivers, resolving issues related to routes, schedules, and GPS navigation Data-Driven Performance Insights: collect and analyze data on transportation operations (spend, route performance, driver efficiency, vehicle utilization) KPI Monitoring: track fuel consumption, delivery times, maintenance needs; provide actionable insights Consistency Across Sites: standardize route management and spend tracking across multiple sites Scalability & Replication: facilitate best-practice replication across sites as the business expands Supporting Operational Efficiency: ensure smooth day-to-day routing and transportation management Proactive Issue Identification: identify inefficiencies and resolve issues before escalation Facilitate Cross-Department Collaboration: work with fleet, safety, and operations to ensure safety and standards; share up-to-date data with the Transportation Network Design team Compliance and Safety Adherence: ensure routes meet safety standards and regulatory requirements; maintain compliance with internal policies and industry regulations Continuous Improvement & Innovation: identify local process improvements and drive adoption of fleet management technologies Requirements
Experience: 2-5 years in transportation, logistics, or fleet management with focus on local transportation operations and route optimization Analytical Skills: strong data analysis and reporting, experience monitoring transportation KPIs and cost metrics Problem Solving: ability to troubleshoot and resolve real-time issues to minimize disruptions Communication: strong interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate across departments and provide clear updates Attention to Detail: high attention to detail in tracking spend, managing routes, and ensuring safety and operational compliance Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Samsara or similar fleet management tools Proficiency in GPS tracking systems and transportation management software Knowledge of local transportation regulations and compliance standards Ability to manage operations across multiple sites Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, or related field (or equivalent experience) Benefits
