Assistant Director, Sustainability

Yale University Salary Range: $68,000.00 - $120,500.00 Responsibilities
Creation and execution of strategies to increase staff involvement in sustainability initiatives, ensuring alignment and advancement of overall university sustainability goals. Updating, administering, and reviewing findings of biennial Sustainability Survey to inform communications and engagement. Development and deployment of an ongoing sustainability-focused staff engagement initiative with clearly outlined objectives, such as a Sustainability Leaders program. Development and implementation of sustainability action plans or action planning toolkits for departments across Yale, with the objective of providing guidance and support to staff for integrating sustainability into their daily operations. Development and implementation of sustainable transportation programs to increase use of sustainable modes of transit (for employee commuting and business travel), including offering support and resources for staff transitioning to sustainable transportation options. Communicating about staff engagement programs with a broad range of stakeholders through presentations, electronic communications, and other pathways. Foster a culture of sustainability across staff through regular updates and success stories. Updating, administering, and reviewing findings of biennial Transportation Survey and determining appropriate programming or communications opportunities to pursue staff engagement. Maintaining comprehensive records of program activities and metrics, and preparing regular reports on program progress, challenges, and outcomes to the Office of Sustainability team. Staying informed about best practices, trends, and innovations in sustainability operations, engagement, and sustainable transportation. Playing an active role on and collaborating with the Office of Sustainability team to coordinate efforts and maximize impact. Supporting cross-departmental projects and initiatives related to sustainability. Oversight of Yale’s reporting and benchmarking submissions for the Office of Sustainability. Required Skills And Abilities
Proven experience in working with the principles and practice of sustainability. Demonstrated strategic thinking and proven ability to execute high-level deliverables for sustainability stakeholders and university leadership. Demonstrated understanding of university operations or equivalent. Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including report writing, data visualizations, and presentations. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Experience leading behavior change efforts, campaign management, or equivalent. Exceptional administrative, analytical, quantitative, organizational, and project management skills. Strong time management skills and proven ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. Significant working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel. Experience with ArcGIS, ArcGIS Storymaps, PowerBI preferred. Expertise in Transportation Demand Management systems preferred. Preferred Education, Experience And Skills
Master’s degree in a related field and eight years of related experience. Principal Responsibilities
Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget. Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program’s website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Background Check Requirements
